Speaking of new music by current or former members of Styx…What’s the latest on the release date for the new Dennis DeYoung CD???? I’m on the edge of my seat!!!

Here is what I can tell you Chicago.

Dennis is currently recording his next album
He has written 18 songs for the new record, and will likely release 12 of them.
It will be more progressively oriented with more early rock influences.
Likely 2-3 ballads at the most, the rest will be up-tempo
Earliest release date is March - latest is June depending on the label.
He is using musicians in his band as well as others
Vocal three-part harmonies will be all male
He will be using his Obie and some of his early synth influences on some songs.
There could be as many as three art-rock songs.

Does this answer your questions?

Also, isn't there suppose to be one or two "Son of Edge Songs" with Glen?

In the latest interview I heard, CHOM radio, Montreal, he will debuting 2-3 new songs at some of his Canadian concerts.

6 songs are recorded and ready to go. Only 6 (or 8 ??) more to go Dennis!!! :D

The release of his CD is targeted for March in Canada, on the label he is signed with up there.

U.S. release date??? No mention in this interview.

Ash. That is terrific news about his going all old school progressive on some of the songs!

Oh, and oops! Did not mean to delve too much into DDY on this thread. This Shaw/Blades CD sounds really good, with some favorite songs of mine on it. I fully intend to buy this one. I think it will make for some nice listening.

Are any of the songs "cringe-inducing"?

Like his last CD and DVD (the symphony one), it's on Universal up in Canada. Rounder (who is distributed by Uni) should be releasing DDY's CD here.

He mentioned something about DEP in Canada? I got confused with what he was saying but did take away from the interview that he is going to push the CD in Canada first, which makes complete sense. They certainly embraced his last CD and DVD.

I just hope that it is released here the same date as in Canada.

Hello God

Though you’re a million miles away
do you listen when I pray
can you hear me.

Just a nod
I don’t need no holy sign
like turning water into wine
just to please me.
Cause I know I’m just a tiny speck
in your great big universe
and I’m not the kind of guy
who quotes your word chapter and verse
but I sure could stand to hear from you tonight

Hello God
I don’t mean no disrespect
but I thought I’d call collect
in case you’d answer
you see it’s odd
cause I’ve been feeling mighty weak
so I’d love to hear you speak
if you could sir

And I know you’re wondering why it took so long for me to call
well I must confess I’m quite a mess
and I’m headed for a fall
so I sure could stand to hear from you tonight

Chorus:

Hello God
I’m over here
all my faith
is lost in fear
I’ll need your grace
to help me journey on
cause I never felt so small
Hello God. Hear my call

Bridge:

All of my life I know I’ve been blind
standin here alone on the shore
lookin for a light to point the way
to prove to me somewhere there was more

Hello God
it’s only me
I’m like a ship
who’s lost at sea
I’ll need your grace
to help me journey on
cause I never felt so small.
Hello God,
hear my call

Because of course Styx has written some classic material in the interim right? Ya know, like others here...you are rapidly becoming a broken record. It works both ways in terms of respect. As much as I loathe the same tired comments about how pitiful Styx is these days, I equally tire of those who feel inclined to make the same tired arguments of DDY. I certainly realize that I can just skip it, but I prefer to read posts by people who normally have something to add. Perhaps I am incorrect in this case.

I know you are being facetious here, but I will take those lyrics which touch the soul over more of this drivel...

These two classics rank right up there with some Lennon/McCartney lyrics..

Yes I Can

So they say that a man can’t live in this world
If he’s wearing his heart on his sleeve
I can

And they say that a man can’t understand
What a women needs when she cries
I can
I can

And I can see you standing in the yard
Tending the roses in your garden
The sun is shining through your cotton dress
And I will freeze this moment here in time
I could live forever in your garden
Ah yes
Yes I can

Fool doesn’t know what he’s missing the most
It’s a bitch of a place to be in
Here I am

How would I know I could give up the ghost
And still hold all your dreams in my hand
Here I am
Here I am

And I can see you standing in the yard
Tending the roses in your garden
The wind is blowing through your golden hair
And I will freeze this moment here in time
I could live forever in your garden
Ah yes
Yes I can

And I can see you standing in the yard
Tending the roses in your garden
The sun is shining through your cotton dress
And I will freeze this moment here in time
I could live forever in your garden
Oh yes
Yes I can

And I can be your man
Mmm, yes I can

OR EVEN BETTER

Just Fell In

It was 8:15
When I pulled into the 7 Eleven
I bought a 12 ounce coffee
And I threw down a 357

I guess I was thinking I would never be found
Next thing I knew I was spread-eagle
Down on the ground

I just fell into a manic depression
And I really want to spend it with you

I got pretty paper shoes
And I’m weaving you a basket for Christmas
Three hots and a cot
And a cellmate who keeps calling me missus

But I like to think I’m the king of the couch
And I like my shrink
‘Cause he always brings me smoke in a pouch

I just fell into a manic depression
And I really want to spend it with you

We don’t have any inhibitions
We’re not consumed by ambition
We’ve got no mission control

They say Dr. Freud might call me an anal retentive
But my PO says I’m delinquent and I got no incentive

Rehab is a thing of the past
I step into the cab and say “Hey buddy, step on the gas”

Just fell into a manic depression
And I really want to spend it with you

WHen you are talking hated songs or songs you wish never were,

There is always "Hip Hop Cracy". So be careful.

And I liked Yes I Can.

but "Just Fell In" is probably Tommy's worst song ever. I'm with ya there...
