I remember seeing the orginal Main Event Tour back in 1978 at The Minnesota State Fair. During that show John Panozzo did about a 20 minute drum solo. I'm not real sure how long it actually lasted. Back then, at that time, time seemed to drag. Anyhow, I was wondering a couple of things, does anyone have a good recording of a John P. drum solo?? Also, when did Styx drop the drum / guitar solos?? Was it when their shows started taking on the concept themes??

Finally, since the time that Todd has taken over for John has Todd ever been allowed to do a drum solo???

Maybe if the drum solo dragged, they decided to drop them. LOL

Todd does that mini solo in Half-Penny and also a snippet during Renegade, but IMO, not nearly enough drummage for my liking.

I had an audio cassette of JP drumming on the cornerstone tour at Wembley ........ god knows where it is now ....probably lost in the move here from the UK.

He done a long drum solo and part of the solo included him blowing a whistle and shouting all aboard then drumming as if it was a train moving out from a station then getting faster as it travelled before slowing down and ending. It was during Renegade.

AWESOME

Drum solos are a waste of time IMO. I think the main usage was to give the lead singer a rest. You had enought TS/DDY/JY sung songs to give each a rest. I do recall JY doing a guitar solo at the 1980 Paradise Show. I can't remember if JP did a drum solo or not.

Of course, you also compare "High Enough" to the types ballads DDY has written.
