I've seen this in a couple of places - nothing official just fans musing...Is it true? I would say doubtful - and if it was - would it be DDY or the touring band?

What I have seen it will be DDY. Since DDY has been doing some work with FOX and since he was on Duets.

Thanks

The only fairly certain theme nights on Idol this year are Beatles night (for which they are trying to negotiate an appearance by Paul McCartney) and ABBA night  . Pretty strong indications of Mariah Carey as well for a pop (schlock) theme night.

Other than that, all is speculation and rumor. The night Dennis was on with Roger Hodgson for Canadian Idol, the theme was Classic Rock.

One would hope Dennis' connections could get him on Idol, but, honestly, they deal in far more well-known talent than Styx and there are many top tier performers and acts clamoring to get on that show. It is the biggest showcase out there for getting your music out and your name in the news.

Has someone told JY's army of lawyers about this yet? As far as he's concerned, his band is the Real Styx. This could get ugly... :D

That would really be scraping the barrel on JY's part if he did that as it would sort of dissing all the music DDY wrote for the band.
My estimation of JY would shrink to gutter proportions if he ever did that....

Lets hope it comes true and there is a Styx night but how many of the kids of today has heard of Styx or DDY ?

I think its a load of bollox really ....more likely to have a Milli Vanilli night and let them all lip synch

I am waiting for Paula to fawn all over Dennis or Tommy. Well they might be a little to old for her, she was purring for a 16 year old not to long ago.

Was she drunk when she was purring for the 16 year old? :)

It's far from official, and I'm certainly not a spokesman, but I have heard that they have talked and have been talking since Celeb Duets. From my contacts I hear they are talking to Dennis, not Tommy/JY. His appearance on Celeb Duets was very well-received, and let's face it, IDOL is about pop culture, and Dennis' songs and voice have the most pop culture recognition by a wide margin. As for JY, there's not a thing he could do about it and even if he could, I don't think he would. The reality is that even if it was a night of nothing but Dennis songs, it would cause the back catalog to explode in sales, and that would result in exposure for Tommy and JY's songs as well as the brand name Styx. Truth is, even though they don't always choose to see it this way, whatever is good for Dennis is good for Styx and vice versa.

By the way, I disagree completely about them talking only with better-known acts than Styx. The fan base for Styx reaches across several genres and is far bigger than almost anyone realizes. It's just that the mainstream media has consistently failed to accuratelly report that until the last few years because of its anti-Styx bias. An IDOL night with Styx would be a smash in my opinion.

I hope all is well.

I do think Styx has a high recognition factor and it WOULD be a smashing night on Idol, no question. I see the possibility as being something like what they did on Canadian Idol, which is to bring in several aspects of the classic rock genre and have two high profile classic rock artists as the mentors for performance night and entertainers for the results night. (Both of those CI shows were really good, BTW)

It would be fantastic if Idol would do a similar type of program, but I am thinking with the really, REALLY high profile artists who want to get their shot at a 30M+ audience, Styx stands little chance of getting a night devoted to just their music. I do see a possibility, though, for perhaps more than one artist on a rock night.

That said, they did do Queen week last year, so nothing is out of the realm of possibility.

I certainly hope you are right, Sterling. :D

If that's true, I'm sure JY is going to get pretty upset that no one wants to sing any of his songs. Obviously he won't let anyone sing a DDY-penned tune, so what's left? After Miss America, Half-Penny, and Great White Hope there ain't much else.

Sounds like it will be a short episode. :D

Sterling is right, history proves if you show up on Idol, your sales go through the roof. Reocrd companies, managers, writers, the band all win in this one. And of course we the current fans would get to see DDY live.

True. Not to mention that his songs, epsecially post-Po8, are more in sync with the sort of music that American Idol promotes.

Good thing they got "Renegade" out of the way last season. lol

Seriously though, I hope they do invite him one day. Might be a show where I finally like ALL the songs (but I bet most of them get slaughtered).

Of course, none of these songs would be appropriate for American Idol, individual opinions on quality notwithstanding. They're all songs for rock bands. American Idol is not about rock, nor is it about bands.

Just sayin'.

We now return to our regularly scheduled JY bashing, already in progress...
