Brand Name .....STYX.......

Anyone care to make a guess at how many times the word STYX will be included somewhere on the packaging of DDY’s new CD.

I’ll say 6 times.

If I were JY I would put a stop to this immediately.

If you worked at Wal-Mart and was then fired you would not be able to open your own store and call it Wal-Mart or even mention the name Wal-Mart in your new stores name. The same goes here. DDY is no longer employed by Styx. Tommy and JY have every right to stop him from using the brand name!!

I respectfully disagree...Dennis is essentially the heart and soul of the classic Styx line-up and for crissakes formed the group! JY and Tommy should know that any new listener buying Dennis' album may decide to check out Styx next...therefore contributing to their retirement fund :)

Its like saying you cant say "Joe Montana from the SF 49ers"...the 2 are eternally linked :)

Dennis DeYoung won't need the name STYX anymore after this cd is released
Its going to blow everyone away
Even stupid and his brother
It wont be long before they think of an excuse to get Dennis back on board

I was just trying to get something going around here but I do think Tommy and JY are doing a great job with the band.
Froy, have you heard this new DDY CD? If not then I would like to add that the new Styx CD will be the best CD ever made!!!! I have a feeling it will just be more of the same old Dennis we have seen for the last 20 years. :P

I hope not, but if it is still the same old DDY has the last 20 years, it will (for the most part then) still be pretty good :D -ERIC

If Eric Lapointe music is a hint, it might be a good album.

They ARE doing a great job with the band. NEW Styx?? Haven't heard of that coming.
If Dennis would write tunes like he did pre Cornerstone, then we'd have something to celebrate. I just don't wanna hear more First Times, High Crimes, Babe, etc. Blech...

In a Dear Todd on Todd's website, someone asks him about the new album, he says that they have no new album planned, but of course that may have changed by now.

Please Matt, enough already with your father! Your Dad is not the same musician that was great ('75-'78) and he never will be again. It's 30 years later and he is not the same person. Now he sings every song like he is singing in a broadway show. Give me some raw attitude while singing, not Barry Manilow. Just watch the soundstage show. Grand Illusion is a ROCK song and should sound heavy. His version does not. It is weak. This new CD with the same group of players will also sound weak. Rock music has attitude and your Dad has none right now to do a real ROCK CD.

ChicagoStyx just wants me to come out of "lurkmode"

The "classic" Styx albums had a variety of music on each of them from rock to ballads and in between.

I have a feeling that Dennis' new cd will be somewhat similar - I'd say probably in the Pieces of Eight era or before on one or two songs. IMO

I'm sure there will be a few rock songs that will sound like "classic" Styx. And I have a feeling that there will be one or two surprises, well surprises that I like.

I'm SO happy that he's going to have a new cd out in the Spring
:D

Wow. Great post! I totally agree. I listened to clips of the Deyoung Symphony deal and it just doesn't ROCK enough. I love Dennis' voice and I love his writing pre-Paradise Theatre, but it's like Dennis was replaced after that album. Geez, should I look at my album covers for Dennis is Dead clues? Sorry, but I haven't heard Dennis do ANYTHING that's rocked since 81. I wanna be wrong, but Dennis needs to prove himself as a bonafied ROCK singer again to me. Otherwise, just like this poster said, it's "Barry Manilow" to me. 10 on Broadway was a GREAT record. BUT it wasn't the Dennis Deyoung that I know and love. It might as well have been Tony Bennet and it totally proves Tommy and JY's point that Dennis wanted to do anything but Rock. Let Dennis do his own thing and Froy can go buy a million copies of it. In the meantime, I will take whatever from BOTH camps as long as it's good.

Froy, you constanly beat up on Shaw. The Damn Yankees rocked more than Styx or Deyoung EVER did and that was Tommy's band. I don't think Shaw's got anything to worry about. For every rock song Tommy's done, Dennis has answered back with lame attempts at Broadway. The Hunchback CD's a joke. Terrible. Dennis needs to prove himself again as ROCK artist not friggin Michael Bolton.

Froy in a dress? Some recent photos I saw at DDY's website, He has some nice legs on him.
Mrs. DDY looks a lot bettter than the BTM episode that aired.
Even Damn Yankees veered into the ballads, High Enough, complete with orchestestra beginning and end, I bet Uncle Ted wasn't to crazy about that.
As far as DDY mentioning the name Styx, isn't that par for the course. Does McCartney ever not get referred to as an ex-Beatle?
As far as the comments toward Dennis not singing well or not rocking, when compared to JY, I am reminded of an old saying, It is better to be a has been than a never was.

I must make a few corrections.

Damn Yankees was as MUCH Ted's and Jack's band as it was Tommy's!

Ted Nugent was the 'True' rocker in Damn Yankees.

While Damn Yankees and Dont Tread were GREAT hard rockin CD's they dont rock as hard as Styx's Equinox Album.

Equinox was ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL Dennis!!!!!!

So I must add that once Tommy got into Styx the band mellowed some!!!

You must remember: Take me down to my.... Lonely School.

Never Never Never Say........ This Could Be The Longest Night.

Never Never Never Say....... Youve Got The Best New Face in The Human Race

Havent we.......... said Yes I Can Before..... Footsteps lead down to the roses in the garden.....

It's the Nature Of The Beast...... that, Styx can play all types of music.

Thats what made them soooooooooooo damn good!!!

All those songs you listed are still not to the level of Babe, Show Me The Way, Carrie, Don't Let It End, Paradise, While There's Still Time. I can handle the other stuff but some of Dennis' songs went WAY too far for my taste.
