Classic rock and roll band STYX will present Sweet Home New Orleans with a $30,000 contribution before taking the stage at the Endymion Extravaganza at the Superdome. The band, formed in1968, is famous for the hit songs “Lady,” “Renegade,” “Come Sail Away,” and “Blue Collar Man” among others. Since Hurricane Katrina, STYX has been raising money to support the recovery of New Orleans’ musical culture.

Sweet Home New Orleans’ mission is to revitalize the music and cultural community within the neighborhoods of New Orleans. Styx’ contribution will enable SHNO to offer rental subsidies to professional musicians, Mardi Gras Indians, and Social Aid & Pleasure Club members. SHNO will help New Orleans’ tradition bearers close the gap between the pre- and post-Katrina cost of rental housing. Recipients of rental assistance from SHNO will also receive the benefits of Neighborhood Housing Services’ programs that teach “financial fitness” and foster homeownership.

According to Tommy Shaw of STYX: "When Katrina struck, STYX wanted to give our fans an opportunity to come together and offer a helping hand, so we created a link on our STYXworld.com website where donations could be made. We raised additional funds by selling a limited-edition series of autographed photographs of the band. Our fans trusted us to make their hard-earned dollars count, so it is with great pride that we will represent STYX fans everywhere with this donation to Sweet Home New Orleans. This program brings musicians home to New Orleans, and STYX is proud to support it."

It's hard to see when you rebuild an area and then some crazy person straps a bomb to themselves or loads a car up with explosives and blows it up. Best political thing we can do is pull out and let the crazys take over the oil supply.

But on another note, Good for Styx to give something back to the area. Regardless what you think about this lineup, they continue to give something back to those in the US.

$180 Billion of Federal aid has arrived here in the Gulf South to rebuild. Ashame the local leaders have no idea what to do with it. The wonderful Govenor of Louisiana has established an outside contractor, called "the road home" to help "expidite" things. In 6 months plus of working balls to the walls, the Road Home has issued a whopping 500 checks to individuals. While at the same time spending $10 Million of "Travel and miscellaneous" dollars which the company feels it does not have to account for to local citizens or leaders. The governor has chosen like many others to blame politics for her total and utter incompetence, she points at Mississippi which was also hit very hard by the storm and complains how they are moving along at a swifter pace. Because the Govenor of MS is Republican? No, because the Governor of MS, who recieved far less than LA in the share of $180 Billion has a brain and a plan and has executed it. The City of New Orleans just got done reelecting Mayor Ray Nagin and Representative Jefferson (the guy who commadeered a coast guard boat to go back to his house during the storm to retrieve $90K from his freezer).
New Orleans District Attorney Eddie Jordan turns criminals loose on the streets of the city like the jails are a revolving turnstile.

Get real people, the slow pace of rebuilding New Orleans has nothing to do with Iraq. By definition, all the money in the world obviously cannot help if the people in charge are incompetent boobs.
