Well according to some here, this CD will surpass Pieces of Eight and Grand Illusion as the best prog rock music these guys ever created. Expect to see a triple platinum release here and an arena tour. Soon, Come Sail Away will be removed from Dennis' set due to all of the hits this new CD will generate. Think back to around 1987/88 and a little album called Hysteria by some british band that had like 6 hot singles released. This CD will put that one to shame.

Funny you mention that - since a band that came after Styx, in many ways copied ther pomp will now be subjugating DFB to an opening band role.

Froy, if you're right I will be the first to say so. When will this come to pass?????
I say it will never see the light of day!!!
I want to hear new classic styx songs in 2007 or 08. I have a feeling it will be 08 when the new STYX CD comes out and not anything that DDY can come up with.

So the bet would be whether Dennis releases an album this year or not?

If this is the bet, then I'd be on Froy's side.

This is incorrect. Not surprisingly given the poster. Asia is the headline act for those few shows that Styx is joining them. Most of the tour is just Foreigner and Asia. Styx is coming in for a few shows, but that is all. And Asia is the headliner. They are the only band that is technically intact.

PostPosted: Mon Mar 05, 2007 5:49 am
by styxfanNH
What does being the only band that is technicly intact have to do with them being a headliner?

Without seeing the poster, I would say that Styx was more of an opening act for them as it is their 25th year anniversary. That and the fact that Styx is only appearing on three of the dates. It would make no sense that Asia would drop to opening status.

Actually.... Here's what I "didn't" miss:

<b>"Def Leppard will book some live dates for the US summer circuit with Styx and Foreigner as support. Other dates will see Styx and Foreigner joining Asia for the triple bill."</b>

I wonder how DFB's new projects are coming too? Are there plans for them to play Cowboy Billy's Beer and Dung Casino in Bucksnort, TN? Or have they made their 15th visit to the Fucktard Valley County Fair in Sistersleep, WV? Perhaps they can at some point sell a WHOPPING 300 CD's in Canada, and produce something outside of a cover album for the first time in five years. Or perhaps if you're very good boys and girls, James Young can send YOU a cease and desist letter for misrepresenting and using the band's name on your personal web site.

But I'm sure the best thing we'll hear from the best lineup of DFB never to produce a SINGLE SOLITARY HIT and only ONE album of original material in the nearly 10 years since they jettison their meal ticket is that rockin new material like what they put on "One With Everything" that landed on the record shelves with the proverbial thud. Perhaps next time they should try doing all of their songs with a back-up jazz orchestra ... I hear Pat Boone's band is looking for work - and DFB could use the fans.

:)

I'm living for a return to Toad Suck Daze  Oh Wait a second that wasn't Styx' date was it.

Don't forget that none of them will play as a headlining act in a major vanue whether they were together or not. Bands like them who do 100 + dates a year aren't looking for that, they're looking for the 2000 - 3000 seat venues.

And if you don't realize the state of the music industry today in regards to cd sales, then you are being unrealistic. But I know you know that Ash. It just continues to a point that no longer has teeth.

But I'll give you this, it was a good rant.

LOL - Just trying to point out the absurdity of some people repeating the same thing by doing the same. Here I had thought some had moved past it. I know I had until I kept reading the same mantra over and over. So I figured I'd just throw them all out there.

Cindy Brady: "I Know a Thee-Cret, I know a Thee-Cret"

I get SO tired of these people that act like they know what's going on when nobody does. Nobody knows what Dennis' album's going to sound like. There's no way at this point that any can say "Ooh, it's going to be the biggest rock record in the world". The fact that the same thing gets repeated by the same people is so silly. If you don't know, don't act like you do... OR put what you know on the table OR shut the heck up.

Well - I'll only speak for myself.

I have heard three songs up for consideration on the new album. All three of them are great in their own way. One was very progressive - one was very pop oriented - and a third was experimental in nature. The third one was the one that I'm kinda taken with just because it's unlike anything I've heard. Anyway - if it goes the way I think it will, I think it will be a very good album just based on my own listening.

Either way - I like Dennis' music just like I used to enjoy Tommy's. I honestly think Tommy took a step backward in his songwriting inside of the band after 7DZ and Shaw/Blades. I know it's more about money than anything - but artistically I think Tommy was much better off doing his own thing and not limiting himself. Tommy really seemed to embrace and learn to find his own sound outside of Styx - something I think Dennis actually struggled with and may even still to some degree.

Now that Tommy is somewhat rutted in the band, he seems to have stagnated.

Wow. Replace "Tommy" with "[random melodic rock forum user of your choice]," and " the band" with "this community" and see how eerie it is.

COOL. finally somebody that can actually explain what they've heard, etc. rather than just saying Nahh nahh nahh nah...

I'm not sure I agree about Tommy stagnating, but I think with so many people vying for space on album that only so many can be heard. Zens has a few great cuts, but I find the production muddy in spots and some of the atmospheric pieces just weird. I like most of the tunes on it, but I think that they just have a strange sound to them. I feel the same way about "What If" which most people didn't dig. Had that album been produced better and had just a better, punchier sound to it, I think it would rank as one of his best-also, someone should've vetoed the edrums- bleck. Ambition to me (when it came out) was great, but listening to it now, many of the songs sound similar and dated. Too much synth. Kind of like Cheap Trick's "The Doctor" album. I liked it when it was released and now I can't really listen to it.

With Dennis- I HOPE that Froy and you are correct in that it will be a great album. After so long of sitting on the sidelines, I would think Dennis would've built up a huge store of great tunes and there's also been a lot for him to draw on to write about (the collapse of his band, the death of his dad, the sickness, etc.). I sound like I don't like Dennis. I like him a lot, I just don't get why we can't like both and have to hate one of them.

I hope it's a good album.

I know Suite has heard part of it - even if it was over the phone. I don't think anyone these days is going to have "the biggest rock record in the world" the way we used to know them to be (a la Metallica's black album, etc.). Those days are over. That is fanboyism at its best hoping that your favorite band's new release is going to be the best ever.
