Sun-Sentinal Article

Postby blt man » Mon May 07, 2007 3:50 am

There is an article in the Sun-Sentinal on Chuck and his new book. I have not read Sterling's book so I don't know if he mentions this, but the article claims that the primary reason Chuck sided with JY and Tommy during the break-up was because Dennis did not want Chuck's name credited on Brave New World while JY and Tommy did not share this view. He ended up playing on 2 songs when he was very sick in order to get the credit.

Geez, another reason to love Dennis...
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Your blind hatred for anyone but Dennis is getting the best of you.

I may be mistaken, but prior to BNW wasn't everyone splitting royalties? That was his point.

So Chuck hates Dennis because Dennis did not want to give him credit for free.
Gee that sounds like play ground stuff to me.
Are they giving credit to Dennis now?
No they make it like he was never there,
Do they give credit to Rickie now?
How about Gowan is he get ful credit?
Of course not,

Look, if I get to interview Chuck, I plan to ask about that 1997 - 1999 period.

You can view it in two ways:
1. If Chuck didn't play on the album, should he really be credited? (playing devil's advocate here) Yes, he's an intergral part to the Styx story and no band is above having someone else play on an album even though another is credited, but maybe Dennis felt like it was different than the John situation in 1995/6. I don't honestly know.

2. Chuck felt forced to get credit, he'd have to play something on the album.

To some degree, though, I feel a bit vindicated because I got all kinds of shit in 1999 when I said it really didn't sound like Chuck on most of BNW.

Actually, they do. For what Gowan writes and such, he's credited. How they're paying him and what the arrangement is there? I don't know, but he is getting credit AND Ricky will just as much on the new Styx album.

You're wrong on this one, froy.

Uhh..I think he did play on it. Here is a group of players that voted against Dennis and you can't stand it. You will always harbor hatred towards the rest of those guys. Sounds like Dennis has moved on, why can't you. Why hold up a torch for someone who is not even fighting it any longer.

But if I had one thing determining my decision to go with Tommy and JY instead of Dennis, that was it."

Wasn't Chuck battling HIV at that time? I believe that is the period that Tommy has said he thought they were going to loose Chuck. ITs not like he didn't want to play, he couldn't play then. It's a bit different than not being associated wit the band in any way.

There vote has all but ruined everything STYX ever stood for
Are you really happy with a 40 min set and cover cds with Gowan singing Dennis songs?
I mean really is this your dream STYX band ?
If the answer is anything but YES then shut your yapper ,

You will always harbor hatred towards the rest of those guys.

You mean the same hatred they harbour towards Dennis
They have ruined a great band nobody should like em for it,

Chuck played, so he should've gotten credit.
Also, the fact that Chuck was with the band for so long, even if he didn't play, what's that to Dennis? Who cares? Chuck that's who. And he helped get them to where they were. Jeez, they gave John credit for Little Suzie didn't they? Only later to find out that Todd played it.

They could've said BASS: CP and GB. But if Dennis SERIOUSLY wanted to cut him out of the loop, that's pretty crappy.

I dont think anyone should have gotten credit for appearing on the album
They all played seperate and mailed everything in
Its ridiculous all the way around
BNW was a disaster.
There had to be a reason he was not credited
If I remember correctly he could not even hold his bass he was so weak,
If this is his vendetta against Dennis then I think he is out of line
To burn a 30 year friendship over this is crazy.

Listen to yourself. You are talking about a guy who has known Dennis since he was 12. You make it sound so black & white. I think there was a little more than just that one thing that made Chuck side with the others and you would have to be insane to think so otherwise. Your thoughts on all this are at times so childish. Sounds like it's time for someone to grow up alright. Leave the current Styx alone and just be happy with what Dennis is putting out. He seems happy, the others seem happy...Froy is still upset though...makes no sense to me. Move on!

You're out of line here. Whatever you think of Chuck, the fact he could even muster up some gumption to record two tracks is good - even if it's on a bad album. The man has something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

If you've heard what Freddie Mercury went through in recording those vocals for Innuendo and Made In Heaven, it's amazing what came out.

Whetever you think of Chuck, give the man some respect here.

You know what froy, people in extrodinary circumstances can sometimes do normal things. Someone suffering with HIV and AIDS when they are weak can have problems, and it may take longer, but people can help, too. Again, I refer to Mr. Mercury. Chuck may not have been able to record a full album's worth of bass tracks, but why kick him when for nearly 30 years (going back to TW4 days at that point) he WAS the bass player for Styx? He had every right to appear on that album.

because it would have been the HUMAN thing to do. Chuck was VERY ill at this point in time. I think it was hororable of Tommy & JY to include him in the credits. (they did that for John when they re-recorded LADY or Little Suzie..etc) they were essentially giving up points they could have made money from, but their loyalty to their longtime FRIEND AND BANDMATE took precidence. CLASSY MOVE.
