some asshat or other wrote: Of course it's a free show. They can't get anyone to actually pay to see them! Even for a free show they probably won't draw a crowd. What a joke! Shaw needs to shave, quit playing covers and go back to Dennis to beg his forgiveness! Mmmmm....Dennis.

<--- Just getting it over with preemptively. Did I hit all the bases?

Actually, this show might be fun, being on my birthday and all....though I don't really feel like driving 8 hours for it.

Then why do you get so worked up for a DDY show when he is only the opening act for the opening act of a lounge show?? :?

You have interest in DDY.

For heaven's sake folks, DDY and Styx are playing roughly equivalent venues and have for years. Both have headlined, and both have opened for other acts. I still can't fathom how people can see it any differently. Anyone who thinks Styx or DDY is going to headline like they did circa 1980 in 20,000 seat arenas and not need an opening act is completely delusional.

I disagree. Styx is playing on a national tour this summer in the big sheds even though they are not the headliner. DDY is playing at the balloon fest in Lisle, IL a few miles from my house. I’m not saying that Styx does not do some smaller shows but DDY does not play any large tours. He does not have the following to get any offers to do shows like that. So they are not doing the same thing…not even close.

You realize that's more choice than anything else. If DDY wanted to play anything other than weekends, I'm sure he could do a package tour with another artists and do sheds. It's not what he wants to do, so you can't really knock him for it. If I could get by just working pretty much only on weekends, I'd do it too :)

You are wrong about him not having the following. I've been to enough Styx and DDY shows since 1999 to get a gauge of the crowds. If anything, I've seen less at Styx shows as time has gone on and more at DDY shows, or at least not a significant drop in attendance.

When both do their own shows and aren't attached to a package deal like Styx is, they're doing casinos, small halls, fairs, etc. Styx and DDY tend to play 1500 - 5000 seaters depending on their popularity in an area.

But you GOTTA go! It's fate. Road trips are very therapuetic, and it's on your birthday! How much more convincing do you need? :-D

Dennis' best solo album was arguably his copycat album. He barely toured that one.

Dennis would be ashamed of you. He's the biggest lounge act there is...
