here's the report from the styxlist:
Helen & Vicki here to report on Styxfest.
Day 1, Thursday, was generally "checking in". Attendees received a
Styxfest tshirt & canvas tote bag, glow sticks, Styx tattoos, map of
the area, bubbles, luggage tags, a laminate and a color band promo
picture. Not everyone was there, so it was mostly a social afternoon,
with some nice sandwiches, veggies & dips, and checking out the silent
auction stuff. Awesome concert (we got to hear Criminal Mind, Suite
Madame Blue, and Love in the Midnight). Security was totally awesomely
cool - if you had a floor seat, you could stand up against the stage.
There's only a really small area in the dead center up front that was
off limits - that's where the camera is to film for showing on the big
screens. We all crammed in but the stage is long enough that it seemed
like everyone who wanted to was able to get up there!
Day 2 started with an amazing brunch: enough food to choke a horse!
Everything from eggs benedict & pancakes to roast turkey and chicken,
veggies, rice, potatoes. And a dessert bar to die for: something like
6 different types of cakes, apple flan, apple crisp & bread pudding
with vanilla sauce, brownies & other little desserty things. We had
the first day of auction stuff - lots of wonderful autographed
memoribilia. And then Charlie Brusco, Styx manager, came and did a Q&A
for about an hour. He was terrific - very honest, funny, and everybody
really seemed to enjoy it. He did say if we want to see Styx in the
R&R hall of fame, we need to hit 'em where it hurts, by letting them
know that we will NOT go, NOT spend our money on anything to do with
the Hall, as long as they continue to exclude an act like Styx. He
suggested writing to the President of the R&R hall of fame, Terry
Stewart. The snack break in the afternoon had all sorts of great
cookies & breads so we were all able to get a major sugar rush! Trivia
contest & lots of raffle prizes were awarded. The concert was awesome
as mentioned in a previous post. Midnight Ride so totally rocked!!!!
Gowan played guitar on it. And we also got to hear Man in the
Wilderness. Security was equally cool and again we were all up front
against the stage. Most of us then ended up closing the bar LOL,
accompanied by some of the crew and Ricky.
Day 3 started a bit later with a great lunch buffet (are you seeing a
theme here? Lots and lots and lots of great food!!!!). Soup, salads,
roast turkey, salmon, corned beef, desserts......Chuck did an
absolutely amazing Q&A about his book, his life, etc. He brought 2
drawings of him & John as Lt. Vanish & Colonel Hyde to show us all,
along with 2 of John's drumsticks (unfortunately these were NOT for
auction - everyone wanted those sticks LOL!). Chuck then signed
autographs for everyone and posed for pictures. He spent time chatting
with everyone and altogether was there for 2 hours. We were all
thrilled and he was just wonderful. He's very funny, which surprised
some people. And he expressed his appreciation for all of the support
he's received from the fans. His book is terrific, so Vicki & I urge
you to buy it - you won't regret it!
Day 3 ended with the auction of some amazing things, including the big
ticket items: Lawrence's wrist cuff, Ricky's hat, Tommy's bathrobe,
and a framed newspaper article about the band from the late 70's,
autographed by all the band members including John Panozzo!
Altogether we raised over $17,000 for charity. That's right,
$17,000!!!!!! The band was incredibly generous in terms of their
donations, and then autgraphing a bunch of stuff donated by other
people.
The concert was again awesome, and security terrific, and we were
treated again to Midnight Ride and Man in the Wildnerness. We also got
to hear Lawrence do Strange Animal!!!
The thank yous are probably too numerous to mention, but JenRN donated
amazing bears dressed as each of the guys (which they autographed),
Jean jackets with the Styx logo (which the band also autographed), and
hand made trinket boxes that eveyrone received. Cara C. donated the
article with John's signature, and the band themselves donated all
sorts of clothing and other items.
Of course, the biggest thank you has to go to Tani for putting on
Styxfest in the first place!!!!!! Without her dedication we could
never have raised all this money for charity and had such a great time
hanging out with other fans, seeing Charlie & Chuck, and eating
ourselves into a stupor!!!
OK, we're going to go crash now.....
