'97-'07

Ya know...I'm sitting here listening to the '97 Pittsburgh boot (Queen Of Spades) and I'm wondering HOW THE HELL COULD THAT VOICE BE REPLICATED? I've seen Styx 5.0 quite a few times...I love the energy that they've got...but the same chemistry is just not there as it was back in '97 or '77. Don't get me wrong...I'll go see either incarnation of the band...I'd just MUCH rather DDY be a part of it.

Rant over...unless someone goes against me... j/k

Just so y'all know...that last option on the poll was a joke.

I would like a copy of the Pittsburgh boot if available, no biggie.

Im torn with this whole thing. Lets get it straight:

Dennis is the voice of Styx
Lawrence is the energy of Styx.

Styx is Styx, i love it all! :)

Uh, let's see...talk...talk...

Ok. There is not now, not has there ever been, a "Gowan-led Styx." Discuss.

Didn't really mean Gowan LED...but more Gowan on Keys and vocals (replacement for THE VOICE of Styx). You know what I meant.

Yeah, but I wasn't interested in talking about that, and talking was requested.

I would add that even if one agrees with the whole THE VOICE thing, Gowan is not a replacement in that respect either. He sings a handful of DDY's tunes, but is far from the dominant vocal presence in the band.

Yet the biggest hits Styx ever had are pretty much gone out of the live setlist. And DDY was the theatrical part of Styx. Gave 'em a certain edge among other bands. IMO. :-)

There will never be a band with two stratospherically talented singers like Dennis and Tommy again. That, to me, is what set them apart from all but the most brilliant bands of the 70's and 80's.

Yeah. when I watch DDY live performances and see him & Suzanne up there playing their edgy air-guitars, it really makes me miss his presence at Styx shows that much more.

And when I hear about hearing the same 15 diluted songs and the same intro lines that current Styx continues to trot out there ("Are you ready for Miss America?", "This song is for anyone whose ever felt like they had too much time on their hands", "Backward satanic messages") I really miss not spending money to see them live.

How long has Dennis been married again? What's all bullshit? Who's an asshole like you, sir?

Please. Speaking of money, how's that refund coming?

Very disappointed that I'm the only one so far to vote Option #3. ;)

You didn't specify which Dennis would lead Styx. If it is the 1977 version of Dennis, who did lead the group but was willing to tour and involve everyone in the creative process, heck yeah. If the current version, no way.

Don't care. Heard 'em all in one night on the RTP tour, and that was fine. Heard 'em all again the next year and it was already getting stale. At this point, I never need to hear any Styx song that appears on GH1 (and most of GH2) live ever again -- at least the current version of the band plays less of them. I wish they'd go further, to be honest.

I don't want Dennis back in Styx. Let him stay with his "sweaty little rock ensemble" as he calls it. Gag!

I don't consider that Gowan leads Styx, although he is an important member of the band.
