Weird Al & Dennis

Weird Al's take on 100 years. I hear it's still in the writing stages

Tell me how do we begin this tragic tale?
Ten full years of arguing and flames have told a tortured trail
And will there come a time when we'll live to see
the idiocy of either camp will quell and cease to be.

And can we find a way to shut up and let things lie
If not then we'll hear all the same old shit until we die
and can we really heal and love our fellow man
when the posting continues from chicago, to froy, to zan.

eye for eye, tooth for tooth
not one among us knows the truth
and then our children's children will keep up the fight some how
100 years from now.

Cool. Al knows who I am. :-D

*sigh* I miss writing parodies. Maybe I can amuse myself later today and make a new one.

Nice job, Ash.

Why do I feel compelled to reveal that, ironically, my next two concerts are going to be Weird Al in June, and Dennis in July? Anyone else in the Chicagoland area partaking of this mismatched but nevertheless amusing duo? LOL

Thanks! LOL I actually saw Weird Al a few years back, just on a whim. I wasn't expecting the peak of humor... this was very shortly after word got out that both of Al's parents were found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning in their home. I can't even imagine that, much less touring, much less being funny. But I giotta say... not only does he have an incredible band (being a parady gig, they play literally everything, and very well!)... but I had first row balcony seats. And I nearly fell off the balcony numorous times from laughing so hard. And not just from lyrically amusing paradies... but every aspect of the whole show was well-put-together, and rip-roaring hilarious. He really is a true showman under the who "parady act" thing... and I put that up there with some of the best concerts I've seen!

He is, hands down, one of the funniest guys out there.

I have never seen his live show, but have seen portions of it on TV and laugh 'till I cry over his full-on accordion medley of heavy-metal classics. It is still one of the favorite things I have ever seen him do.

Similar experience here: I first saw AL in 1996, after having been a fan since his Dr Demento days, and I honestly didn't expect much. Thought he'd come out with the accordion, play a few songs, tell a few jokes, and that would be that. But it was a true rock show, fantastic on every possible level. High energy, great sound, immensely talented band, inventive and hilarious theatrics, and most importantly, the guy can flat-out sing. Sounds bizarre to say it, but he's one of the best rock frontmen I have ever witnessed. The fact that someone with that much talent chooses deliberately to express it in a silly, whimsical fashion instead of taking himself (or the world at large) too seriously puts a lot of other artists to shame.

And you know what's ironic, if not sad? If went out as a straight-up serious rock act, he may or may not have had his time in the sun. And today, he may be a nostalia act (or dare I say it, have a thread on medocicrock.com?) and we'd all be bicking about the old days. But somehow, his voice, talent, and veratility has kept him reinventing himself over the years, and the novelty-act approach has kept him from just comin' and going. And his music has matured a lot over the years. Not all the way, but it has gotten a little smarter. It's not all songs about boogers anymore. LOL
I love the video clips between songs... like his "interview" with Celine Dion, when he mentions that her parents were eaten by cannibals, and it cuts to a shot of her responding , "I can still remember the smell of mother cooking..."

He certainly has outlasted quite a few of the folks he has parodied.
