Serious question to fans of the current STYX line up.

I just found out that STYX will be playing the Wild Horse Saloon here in Nashville on Octobet 10.

The Wild Horse at capacity will probably hold between 1500 to 2000 people.

Here are the ticket prices

GA (Stand Room Only) $30 + TM charges
VIP (Guarenteed Seat but no guarentee where the seat is) $60 + TM charges
Reserved VIP (Reserved seating on the dance floor area) $85 + TM Charges
Reserved VIP & Meet and Greet $125 + TM Charges

Here's the thing, I saw them here last year at the Ryman Aud. I had front Row Balcony seats and they were just $45 + TM charges. So I don't see myself paying $30+ to stand in the back of the hall or $60+ to sit on a bar stool. $85 and $125 are just out of my price range. As much as I like the current line up this just feels a bit on the steep side for my tastes.

I live in Clarksville and just went to the concert in Birmingham. I wanted to go see them in Louisville with my girlfriend, but apparently the set is like 30 minutes.

I live just a few miles from the Wildhorse and I have seen a few bands there . . . America, Jethro Tull, and Blood, Sweat and Tears . . . and it's actually a great venue. Last time Styx was here as a stand-alone act it was at the Ryman, which is a highly-regarded venue just because it is the original home of the Grand Old Opry. It's historic. Having said that, the Ryman sucks as far as its acoustics, and it only has old church pews for seating. The Wildhorse is a state-of-the-art venue that is used for most of the live TV tapings for CMT, as well as many concerts. It's a way better venue with really no bad seats, so if I were going to see Styx, this would be the place to do it. Kansas was just at the Wildhorse last week. It seems like they're shifting their bookings from all country to more and more pop and rock, especially classic rock, which is cool.
To answer your question, yes, I would see this show.

They have to turn the volume down just a bit because of the echo - which makes the acoustics perfect. So I guess we just have different opinions. If the band plays too loud in there, then yes it sounds like ass.

Actually, you're right about the volume thing. We saw Trisha Yearwood at the Ryman and it was fantastic. But Styx sounded rough in there in my opinion, and it probably was from the sheer volume. The show itself was good but it just didn't have the clarity of sound that I usually associate with Styx.

You saw Queensryche? I just interviewed Geoff Tate last Tuesday for the release of 'Mindcrime at the Moore'. The piece ought to hit very soon. He was great, a real gentleman.

I saw Styx there too. It was in Feb 05. I have the poster thingy they were selling from it. It's an awesome souvenir.

I agree with you about the acoustics. Styx didn't sound very good in that venue. I don't think it was the bands fault. Every sound seemed to echo off the hard surfaces. Manic Depression sounded really bad....

I'm a huge Queensryche fan. Their show at the Ryman was among the best sounding concerts I've ever attended in my life. The sound was just so rich and so full - and Geoff was just really on his game. He sounded great!

Sorry I missed Kansas there - David Ragsdale is a friend of mine. I've not seen those guys in eons. I guess I should try to pay attention more eh!

I saw Both STYX and Queensryche at the Ryman and of the two Queensryche's sound was much better. I guess when the date gets alittle closer, if I can round up the $30+ for GA tickets I'll probably go to the Wild Horse Show

Hi Ash I love Queensryce too!! I can't believe that I read they're doing some cover songs!! BUT, I am looking forward to their next cd, cover songs and a few rare songs


Mr. V, if you have a chance to go to the show, go. I just wouldn't want you to regret not going, especially if you had a chance. Also if this is your only chance to meet the band, I'd go for it
