Which songs do you think would have made it to a STYX album?

Which songs do you think have air play potential in the US?

Just curious.....

#1: Rubicon, possibly. Rain, hopefully.

Airplay? Rub a lamp.

"Rain," for sure. It essentially is a Styx song, just recorded by a different bunch of musicians (more's the pity, but that's another topic.)

Depends on the market they choose to focus on, and which way the wind is blowing.

I agree with Rain and Rubicon.

Not sure about I Believe in You. Would it belong on a "Cornerstone type" album more than Save Me?

While not a Styx song per se, there is something about the harmonies in This Time Next Year that reminds me of the harmonies in Mademoiselle (don't know why).

Rain kicks ASS! It would make a great Styx Song. Same with '100 years' with Tommy trading vocals with Dennis.
"Save me" would be a great Styx Power balled. Just add some harder guitar sounds with a little help from JY to rock it up a bit.

Turn OFF CNN would be a killer Styx song if they lengthened it a bit and added Tommy and JY's vocals. It's an "in your face" type of song and we be great for a Styx song. Kind of like "Not dead yet" but a much better song.

Rubicon is a great song, but How could it be a Styx song??? IT IS ABOUT what happened with Dennis and Styx, IMO. Just listen to the words. I could be wrong. I usually am! By the way, has anyone had a chance to figure out exactly what Dennis is saying in the beginning?
He says a few words, and then says what sounds like STYX STYX STYX. I can't find my damn headphones at home, so I still can't figure out exactly what he is saying before he starts singing.

By the way, I had my daughter all weekend and she knows all the words to RAIN now. She makes me play it over and over in the car.
I love Rubicon, but I think RAIN is the best sounding song on the CD. Rubicon gets to me emotionally, though.

I think there's a handful of "Styx" tunes on here. I agree that "Rubicon" and "This Time Next Year" would make great Styx songs, that, ya'll are right, would ironically not exist if they WERE Styx songs. (I love a good paradox!) I hear "Love At First Sight" in "Save Me..." and can hear that as a Styxified power ballad. I agree also that with a little nudging, 100 Years and CNN would both take well. Only other addition I have to make may seem odd, But the vide of "Forgiveness" (another that probably wouldn't exist otherwise, but hey) reminds me of "Great Expectations," so I can se Dennis throwing something that way over to Styx as well. For reasons I can't explain... though it rocks and it's one of my favorites on the CD... I don't think "Rain" would have made it, though it would sound awesome with the whole gang. Don't ask me why I don't think it'd make it... I have no sane, functional reason other than a feeling. LOL

I won't entertain the first question. Sorry, NH!

I guess of all the songs on the CD, though, Rubicon is by far the most "Styx" sounding even though it is about his moving on post Styx and past Styx.

Air play would, if he is lucky, be AC radio only so the most likely ones might be "Save Me" or "I Believe in You." "Breathe Again" possibly has potential.

I am pipe dreaming, though, because chances of that in the US are slim to none.

That said, his success in Canada is really gratifying. He has been on the Billboard Top 100 Singles chart for 5 weeks now. The song has been on the Canada Top 40 charts for several weeks and has been as high as No. 25 on the AC charts. (And yes, I am aware that this is due to the song's popularity in certain parts of Canada only) but this success for him is quite amazing for an artist of his genre and age.

Rain? I just don't get that song. Just too ...I don't know..just don't like it much. Rubicon would have to be altered for sure. This Time Next Year I could see. Of course two or three ballads would have to be thrown in regardless.

I read an interesting article about 2-3 weeks ago about aging artists putting out new albums. It indicated that there was new support by the labels for the over the hill types to release new music. The article indicated that they only really need to sell about 50k to 60k for the labels to make profit, and because the purcahsers/listeners tend to skew older, there is much less concern that illegal downloading will eat into the sales.

Is that the new criteria for being a Styx fan? I guess now I know why Raj keeps insisting I'm not one.
