Dennis in Oshkosh - July 26, 2007 REVIEW

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Mon Jul 23, 2007 12:00 pm

Is anyone going to see Dennis in Oshkosh this Thursday night?

Another new song from the new album in addition to "100 Years From Now" and "Save Me". 3 guitarists will be at this show (first time). It's suppose to be pretty dandy weather.

I'm looking forward to this show!!! Should be GREAT!!!

There were 3 guitarists at the show just north of Montreal back in June.

Thanks and there were probably other shows too recently!! :) Then I guess it will be a first for me - LOL I'm so confused with all these shows and who was on stage :)

Here's my review from the Oshkosh show.......

It was a blast, wet, fun and wet.

By the way, do you know where Jimmy (Leahey) is??

Anyhoo, who the hell says Dennis can't rock? Huh? It takes 3 "rock" guitarists just to keep up with him - LOL

Who would think that Dennis would be playing on the same stage with a "Tommy and James" duo again???? LOL I thought that was funny when he mentioned that during the concert. LOL

Hey Suite, where's Jimmy??? (I'll send you that really great pic I have of him).

The concert was WET.

Right after "Save Me" a big crack of thunder came streaking across the sky and Dennis quipped, "That's what I get for praying to save me!!". :-)

Great concert. I was a bit disappointed that he cut out 100 Years (which would have been solo, which I haven't heard yet), and cut down Suite Madam Blue. Being Canadian, I thought it my duty to scream the loudest. :-)

Great sound with 3 guitarists, but I already knew that because of the Montreal concert last month.

And SOMEONE had cranked up Glen! He was all over the place, including mid-air. Got pics for stmonkey!!

Yikes, Glen was on fire or had way too much Monster Energy in Oshkosh and at the Milwaukee show. It's a blast watching him perform and he brings so much energy to the stage!! I love when he's at Dennis' shows!!

I wonder if Jimmy was ever found after the concert? We searched all over Oshkosh. LOL

It started to rain right before the show. The first 3 rows were protected by the overhang of the stage. We happened to be by the very front  When we were looking back the rain was pouring down, it didn't look like anyone left at all, it was SO crowded!! Wow. The rain shifted during "The Best of Times", so we were finally getting rained on for the last 2 songs.

It was a BLAST to meet Amanda face to face (mug to mug). I pretty much begged her to go to the Festa show but she was flying in to Chicago that same day and was too wimpy to ditch her Illinois friend to come up and see Dennis - LOL

So there I was camping (long story) and I kept calling her that she HAS to go to the Oshkosh show, I mean who the heck wants to miss Dennis when he's playing a Wisconsin show and she was SO close, well 4 hours away - LOL My begging must've worked because she ended up renting a car and coming up on Thursday afternoon. I also had 2 other friends come too, Brenda who is a huge Styx/DDY/Gowan/Tommy fan and I go to a lot of concerts with her and then there was Courtney a "newbie", she's only 19 but sure learned a lot about the history of Dennis and Styx all the way up - LOL All good history :)

If anyone has been on a road trip with me or at a Dennis concert with me knows that anything can happen - After the concert in the storm we were able to get a quick picture of the 4 of us with Dennis and Suzanne right after the concert in the rain, we were so drenched. I'm so happy that it worked out :)

Amanda can fill more in and where I took her - LOL

It was GREAT and WONDERFUL to meet and hang with Amanda!!! She's a blast to be with, eh! I'm taking her to the Depot restaurant - Hey Froy, that's where you LOVE the bacon :D

Here's another picture from the concert. My camera wasn't working the greatest - UGH!

Love that picture with the "four" guitarists. What brand is that Dennis is playing, anyway? :P Oh wait. I think it is an Invisecter.

Still looking for Jimmy...

Postby blackhalo » Sun Jul 29, 2007 5:26 am

What an awesome show! I had the most excellent time in Oshkosh--the rain didn't even matter.

And hey, here's a picture of Jimmy...LOL.

Oh, I forgot one thing about the concert.

Apparently, fans of Dennis DeYoung don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain ..... :-)

Hi again Brenda!! I hope you'll post more :) You don't have to worry about Froy until tomorrow, I just got off the phone with him and he's going out on the lake for the day.

Great picture of Jimmy!!! I wonder if anyone knows where he is - LOL

By the way, where is the next show that we're going to?

LOL come out of the rain or the lightning!! At least the weather was still hot out and the rain felt great! I just wish some of those guys would've put their shirts back on - ACK! However, there were a few guys that had their shirts off and then the rain would just come down on their wet, hot bodies. Now that was a really, really nice view.

I think it was the normal set list, with the addition of "Save Me". He cut "100 Years From Now", "This Time Next Year", "Prelude 12" and "Don't Let It End". And like you said, he had to shorten the songs. It was still a great 2 hour show and there were a LOT of people from all over the US since they were in Oshkosh for the EAA show (airplanes).

Must be a recurring theme. St. Louis poured for an hour plus and we all stood there waiting for it to end.

He then put on a dynamic 75 minute show because he was against curfew. THe best I have seen him.

No clue where Jimmy is right now, but I have faith he'll turn up eventually. LOL.

As for the next show, Mike's doin' a solo gig at Flappers (76th & Becher) at about 9pm...I'm headed to the Zoo after work first to see another band, but that's over before Mike starts...if you can't make that, then there's always Mike again on Saturday night w/ the rest of the BVS boys at 618 Live (on Water St.) w/ Simplistic Urge from Illinois. Those guys are real young, but you might like them too...oh, and don't forget about Doc Hammer on Thursday at the Fair....

Hi Amanda! Yes, that was a great pic, thanks! The one I showed you of Dennis & Jimmy when we were shuffling thru them on my camera actually turned out blurry once I loaded it on the computer. :(

Bummer on the Dennis & Jimmy one. That happens to me sometimes too. You really can't move at all when taking those pics. I'm going to upgrade my camera soon though, because I find it slow.

Thanks for the pic! I love them all .... Can't wait to see the one of us with Dennis & Suzanne that Suite has!! I must email my pics to her tonight if I can wrestle the computer from my son. :-) At least Dennis and Suzanne were dry. They have more sense than us!!

She made me an offer I couldn't refuse ... LOL! Driving to her place was just TOO close - it was only 2.5 hours away. I must have been crazy driving alone in a foreign country to somewhere I've never been to, but I did it anyway. Sometimes you just have to take a risk, you know?? Suite actually drove from her place to Oshkosh a few hours after I arrived.

I don't know where she gets the energy! I'm so happy we had a chance to have a pic with Dennis and Suzanne and later with John. I kept apologizing to John for my drenched shirt. I was wearing red, so the top half was darker red than the bottom! John was very nice about it all. On the way to the car, I was able to wring the water out of my ponytail.

SuiteMadameBlue wrote:Amanda can fill more in and where I took her - LOL

Oh geez, I got to see almost every non-parking space in Milwaukee!! It took us a while to find parking.

I got to see the cool gaslight that predicts weather, the Miller ballfield, Miller Valley, a cool brewery/restaurant and this crazy bar called the "Safe House". They had me do all this weird stuff just to ascertain that I wasn't a "spy" and be allowed to go in. It was all worth it because once I got in, I was applauded for my efforts (Suite, the little brat, was watching me on video!!). It had a very cool atmosphere - I got myself a t-shirt. :-)

SuiteMadameBlue wrote:It was GREAT and WONDERFUL to meet and hang with Amanda!!! She's a blast to be with, eh!

And vice versa, eh??

Suite's poor husband had this crazy foreigner in his house for 24 hours before we even got to meet!! He was cool about it all, though.

SuiteMadameBlue wrote:I'm taking her to the Depot restaurant - Hey Froy, that's where you LOVE the bacon :D

And I'm STILL full!!!! I don't know what they had in the eggs, but boy, was my omelet good! With cheese, of course. There is a pic that Suite has of me flirting with the camera with a huge wedge of cheese on my head.

All in all, great fun!!! Will remember for a long time ....
