Don't you know me by now? LOL I was only joking. I think that's the first time that I ever posted that I was actually going to leave the board. I know on the Journey board there's a couple of people that post they're going to leave the board over and over.

(I was camping for a few days at Boy Scout camp)

Excellent news. Glad I held off (er...procrastinated on) buying that bootleg version all these years.

I almost bought the bootleg one too off of Ebay, but I kept reading on StyxCollector that the dvd was going to be released - LOL

I have the VHS copy and it's fun to watch when I'm in one of those crazy moods - LOL

Interesting on a couple of accounts.

1. I thought DDY didn't have much say on back catalog releases. Adds some interesting back stories to the plot (add another question for my never going to happen interview with DDY).
2. The DVD was done a few years back but pulled from the schedule with no reason given.
3. The evidence of #2 is right on the 20th Century Masters DVD since one song is clearly from CITA.
4. Could this mean that possibly Uni will loosen up and release some new Styx product the fans want like remasters?

I will check with my contacts at Uni to see if I can get more info. Thanks for the heads up, Suite.

Oh very cool! Thanks for "returning" to the board, Suite  and giving us this info.

I have the VHS tape, too, but it might be nice to have a DVD version IF it is sort of cleaned up a bit visually. Oh hell, I will buy it anyway, of course!

I love that cheesy movie with the exceptional visual effects, the concert, and especially the reprise at the end. SO dang much fun!!

Bugsy

4. Could this mean that possibly Uni will loosen up and release some new Styx product the fans want like remasters?

Answer: I doubt that will happen although it should. Heck, even goofball Tom Scholz of Boston got around to remastering their first two albums. I have a feeling that JY will once again be the stick in the eye for this one: any remasters being released will only give more attention to DDY and show how much he meant to the band.

Of course, if JY could re-release the Styx albums with all references to DDY edited out, that would be fine with him. Maybe he can Photoshop DDY's large face off of the PO8 cover and replace it with one of those Easter Island heads.

I actually bought the DVD off of ebay. I tried to look for the VHS, but never could find it. The DVD is a "laserdisk" rip, so the quality is very good and the sound is great.

Anyone know if there will be any special freatures on the DVD?

Thanks

Doubt it. None of the Uni back catalog DVDs have been much more than their original releases with chapter stops.

Well, I'm stil hopeful it will happen. Styx is one of the few major artists who has not had their catalog overhauled. My sources tell me it generally won't happen because Uni doesn't see the value in doing it at this point, but there's more to it than that. Would DDY benefit financially from them? Yes.

No problem. While there is some "cutting room" type stuff, remember that CITA is not completely a "live" album or video. It was fixed in the studio. So what was released is what was "fixed". I don't think the raw audio and video footage will ever see the light of day.

Best thing on that video is the pre-show video- which was really cool btw. Styx's performance comes off as pretty lifeless.
Return to Paradise and even the Arch Allies show has so much more kick to it.
Caught in the Act just seemed so watered down to me. I hope that it's remixed to give the guitars more balls.

They should also put the heavy metal poisoning vid on there. I love the scene where Tommy stands up and plays the solo wagging is finger at Righteous. That was a great video.

Yeah, all the KWH vids would make for some fun bonus features. Unlikely of course, but still...

I could care less about remasters at this point given that most new remasters are excessively bright and compressed to death (i.e. no dynamic range).

The existing Styx CD catalog actually sounds quite good comparatively and if the remasters are done the way most are these days... no thanks.

I would say that this could be possible.

Unicersal did take the time to relay the audio tracks to the videos that they posted on youtube. So they have been working on stuff.

According to Suzanne's last crib entry, Universal owns the masters. Now with Dennis' new cd doing well and with CITA coming out there may be a new momentum to do so. That and teh fact that many of the songs were already remastered by Ludwig for the Anthology. I remember reading an article where he said the Styx masters were in surprisingly good shape. If they were goiong to remaster the A&M albums, my guess would be he is the one that would do it to stay with consistency and capitalize on work already done.

That would be my interview with Bob Ludwig - I specifically asked that question.

The hits compilations may be louder, but they are NOT brickwalled nor excessively bright.

The only A&M Styx CDs that sound good are PT, KWH, GI, and Cornerstone - the original four. Equinox, CB, Po8, and CITA are bad. EOTC only had one mastering. The 2 on 1 of Equinox/CB I'm told wasn't from the masters, so it's just a re-EQ.

So at least 1/2 of the Styx catalog needs it, and if it sounds like the Anthology or Complete Wooden Nickel Collection, I'd be happy.

Which hits collections are you referring to? There's clipping all over the place on the Anthology.

It's pretty apparent to me that the peaks have been sliced off.
