DENNIS DEYOUNG RECREATES 30 YEARS OF MUSICAL HISTORY
With The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra

Dennis DeYoung, former singer and songwriter of Chicago-based rock group STYX, will perform for one evening November16, 2007, at the Baton Rouge River Center. Tickets go on sale through the Friends of LPB pledge drive being held August 4th-19th. A later public on sale date is TBD.

DeYoung will perform with his five-piece band, guest Broadway vocalists and a full symphony orchestra. A unique symphonic rock experience that combines the impact of a live orchestra with the edge of a rock band bringing new power and feeling to such classics as “Lady”, “Babe”, “Come Sail Away”, “Mr. Roboto”, “Grand Illusion”, “Lorelei”, Suite Madame Blue”, “Rockin’ The Paradise”, “Don’t Let It End”, plus many more, including solo works and new music.

In September 2002, WTTW Chicago PBS taped DeYoung performing with his rock band, a full symphony orchestra and The Chicago Children’s Choir for PBS’ Soundstage. This Soundstage pledge program is currently airing nationwide on PBS stations. DeYoung followed this PBS performance by recording his live symphony orchestra concert in April 2003 at the historic Chicago Theatre. The PBS DVD and double live concert CD are available at www.dennisdeyoung.com.

DeYoung and film composer Alan Silvestri rearranged and re-orchestrated “Grand Illusion” for symphony orchestra and rock band, which closes the IMAX film Siegfried and Roy: The Magic Box. His latest ventures include “Come Sail Away” featured in the Disney movie Atlantis, Ja Rule covering one of his never released STYX songs “Castle Walls”, Foxy Brown sampling “Light Up”, and a spoof of “Mr. Roboto” in Austin Powers – Goldmember. In recent years, DeYoung’s songs have appeared in movies and television shows, including: Sofia Coppola’s Virgin Suicides; Adam Sandler’s Big Daddy and 8 Crazy Nights; New Line Cinema’s Detroit Rock City; DreamWork’s new release Old School starring Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn; Comedy Central’s South Park, NBC’s ED and ER; ABC’s Still Standing and CBS’ The King of Queens. Volkswagen turned “Mr. Roboto” into a funny national commercial featuring two Wayne’s World-type guys jammin’ to the song. In 1999, Universal Hippo Records released a compilation of DeYoung’s solo albums in their Ultimate Collection series, featuring music from “Desert Moon”, “Back to the World” and “Boomchild”.

Recently, DeYoung wrote and recorded a song for his wife Suzanne’s soon to be published book A Love Foretold. The book, accompanied by the new release, is currently available at www.DennisDeYoung.com and will be available for purchase at the Baton Rouge River Center show.

I started taking my daughter to Styx shows when she was 4, I think. She really enjoyed them (I made sure to put cotton or kleenex in her ears for protection as well), but I found if the shows ran too late, she would fall asleep and not be at all interested in waking up. One show, she fell asleep on my friend's shoulders, and we ended up laying her down underneath the stage behind the curtain. LOL - I did find that as she got older (6-8 ) she appreciated them more than when she was 4 & 5. Just be sure to protect their little ears, especially if you're up front next to the speakers.

Ohhh. Getting a little closer to Texas all the time! :D

Excellent advice about protecting the young ones' hearing. You can get really cheap, soft earplugs at any drugstore, too. I highly recommend those as they are quite comfortable.

The kids I have noticed having the most fun at the DDY concerts I have attended have been 6/7 or older. Mr. Roboto gets them every time! :o

Bugsy

Congratulations! You're still the same.

My daughter age 7 has seen Styx twice. At ages 3 & 5. She also heard them when my wife was 8.5 months pregnant. She will ALWAYS love Blue Collar Man because of that.

My son has seen Styx once at age 3. I have a GREAT picture of him playing Glens guitar. Glen came right up to us during Love Is The Ritual held his guitar out and let my son Rhett swipe the strings.

My only real suggestion is get there right at show time. I took my daughter at age 3.5 to see The Main Event Tour. All I really wanted to see was Styx & Journey. We saw about half of REO and by the time Journey was half into their performance she wanted to leave.

We left right then. I didnt even try to talk her into staying any longer. As bad as she wanted to leave that night I will always feel that Journey wanted out even more. Talk about going through the motions.

Take the kids. They will love it. Just arrive right at show time.

Exactly what I was thinking, along with Foxy Brown.

Ja Rule info from http://www.slantmagazine.com/music/musi ... .asp?ID=99:
"Dial M For Murder," which features a refreshing amount of live instrumentation including bass and percussion, contains an interpolation of Styx's "Castle Walls," creating a menacing score straight out of a vintage Dario Argento horror flick

I couldn't find any info on Foxy though ...
