"P.S. Forgot to mention...great idea about Dennis and Steve"!


That was a quote from DDY's better half in her crib on the question that has been tossed around in this forum many times.
That tells me that the idea has been tossed around in at least one camp. I recall seeing DDY on some ballads show on VH1 recently. I never heard him publicly comment on Steve Perry before. The subject of course was open arms, and DDY could not have been more complimentary about how powerful that performance is. Wow what a tour that could be. I see dollar potential there that would blow away a lof of other stuff out there, including Styx and Journey.

This would be a really amazing concert, but is Perry up to it vocally?

Does anyone really know how Pery is vocally today? I think everything is speculation.

Dennis's management ought to extend an invite to Steve to sing with him the all English duet version of One Hundred Years From Now.

This would be a GREAT marketing ploy. Give Steve a major portion of the sales and watch Dennis's CD catch fire in the US.

The two voices of our generation together for one song. I dont care what year it is now, this would sell. The song is good and relevant enough for todays auidence. Good music is good music.

It may also open Steve's eyes a little too. On select nights Steve could join Dennis for a few tunes.

I remember a quote from Perry regarding similarities between them and Styx. Something like

"What do we have in common with that?"

Really old comment.

DeYoung and Perry, that sounds like an unstoppable force.

...but I don't believe Steve Perry EVER said that. In fact, Perry and other members of Journey were known to attend Styx concerts and vice versa "back in the day." There was always mutual respect between Journey, Styx and REO - 3 bands that were linked by their common chart/touring success in the early'80's.

PLUS, while KWH wasn't a "fave" among his peers (Pat Benatar made a snyde remark about it), Dennis himself was ALWAYS lauded by his fellow vocalists for the power and texture (which separated him from other super-human yelpers like the late Brad Delp and Mickey Thomas - BIG voices without the "richness" of Dennis' pipes) of his voice.

For the life of me, I don't get what Styx is supposed to have in common Journey, REO, et al other than the fact that they all hit around the same time, leading to a semi-shared audience demographic.

Stylistically, It's apples & asparagus, IMO.

I'm going to have to agree with you on this one. 2 completely different bands.
The only thing they had in common when I was in Highschool (1979-1982) was that they were 2 of the most popular bands at the time. They were rivals in my school. If you liked one, you hated the other. It was quite common to hear people arguing who was better. Styx rules!! Journey Rules! Common statements back in the day.

Journey had 1 lead voice. And yes, it was a great voice. And Neil is a great guitar player.
Styx focused on harmonies. And IMO Styx had 2 of the greatest lead vocalists of all time. And 2 great guitar players.
2 different sounds, to me. Both great in their own ways.

And Dennis/Steve would make a great tour. But it will never happen. Steve hates touring more than Dennis does.
Besides, we had the best tour of all time. It happended in 1996.

Yeah, actually he did. I believe it was a Circus or Hit Parader article. The journalist was asking them how they felt about being lumped in with bands like Styx and Foreigner and Perry said something to the affect of "How could they lump us in with bands like THAT?".
I was a diehard Styx and Journey fan back in those days and was surprised that he said it.

StyxfanNH- Uncle Joe said a yr or so ago, that Perry sounded like the 80's. Perry said awhile back that he is taking vocal lessons to see what he's got. Perry has sang backup on several albums. Guff was the last one.
