Wow... now they're reduced to playing after baseball games on fireworks night.
This is normally territory reserved for lame bands like Grand Funk Railroad and their like.
: gulp :

Might be surprised that I am saying this, even surprising myself..

, but if people stay...it could actually be a pretty large crowd.
What I really would like to say is...woopideedoo!

Of course it will be a large crowd... they're 2nd bill to the fireworks... people in this town *love* fireworks. It's really strange.
Regardless, those aren't music fans... the people in attendance by in large will be so far out of the Styx demographic it won't even be funny.

Are the Pirates that good to have a big crowd for the game? I haven't been watching any baseball so I don't know.

The Pirates average about 15,000 fans per game. Styx should have booked a Yankee game.
They average 53,000 fans per game. Of course, New Yorkers are smart. Once they realized Dennis wasn't there, they would file for the exits.
"Hey, Yo, who's that Shmuck tryin' to sing Come Sail Away??? Dat Ain't Dennis De-friggnin-Young.
He's Larry who???
I'm outta here"!!!!

The Pirates suck... they're a joke... but people come out in droves for the fireworks. It's bizarre.
They'll sell out or come real close to it. Usually they sell out fireworks nights.
All real baseball fans in this town have bailed... they're only attracting people that like the view of the city in the new stadium and like the hot dogs.

Actually, Yankee fans probably couldn't name anyone in Styx. Past or present. Nor would they care.

For what it's worth...

I like seeing Styx do gigs like this far more than seeing them used as an after thought/filler for a Def Leppard tour. Also, I DO believe that there will be a few people who will show up to see the moribund Pirates simply because Styx is playing in addition to the Fire Works show.
These shows and "an Evening with Styx" are what I wish - not that my wish matters much - that Styx would "stick" to.

Yeah and JY knows nothing about the music business...he should read this board and take direction from some of you because you people apparently have all the answers to lead Styx into headlining stadiums and selling millions of records.

Let's see... There's Dennis Young, and Tommy Shore, Fred Weber, Chuck and Jack Pazzanno and James Bertnik
Is that right?

Everyone knows that if Dennis was leading the band today that they would be as big as U2, Bon Jovi, or Springsteen. Selling millions of records, getting tons of airplay, and having the public swooning at their every move as they play in stadiums to 60,000+ fans at sold out shows across the country, Europe, and beyond. Rap fans would realize the errors of their musical tastes and jump on board the Styx bandwagon throwing petals at the feet of all the members to soften the ground they walk on. Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket. What was I thinking? Gotta go drink more kool-aid...

I can just see the promotional poster for this one:
"FIREWORKS Tonight At 9 PM" (in 24-point type)
"With special gues Styx" (in 10-point type halfway down the poster)
"Not With Dennis DeYoung, Though" (in 2-point type at the bottom that you need a magnifying glass to read)
Seriously, JY needs to have a disclaimer at the end of every Styx promo on the radio: "DoesnotincludethatotherguyDenniswhowrotethatcrappyRobotosongorBabewhichwekickedhimoutofthebandfor."
If "Dennis" were "leading" the band toda

there'd probably BE no "band" per se. If Dennis would allow himself - and JY and Tommy would allow - to be an "equal" member of the band - singing "his" songs and contributing as a song writer - Styx wouldn't be Bon Jovi or Aerosmith - but they'd be bigger than they are today. How much? Who knows? But bigger nonetheless.
Still, I think the baseball gig is a good idea. ALOT better, IMHO, than the Def Leppard gig.
