Largo MD 1981

I have a dvd of a Largo MD show on 4/13/81. Its kinda grainy and there are a lot of blackouts on the footage due to the ransition from song to song. Looking for input as to whether any one here thinks I should post it on youtube. The audio seems ok.

It's a good show. One of the few pro shot Styx videos floating around. The problem is that because it's so circulated, the quality has gone down depending on when you got it since it's been duped so much. The same could be said for Japan 1982 as well.

Just had a chance to do the first 4 songs

If they aren't available yet, it is because they are still generating on youtube's end.

I thought Dennis had cut his hair for the Paradise Theatre tour. If I can recall, I've seen that tour with Dennis's hair Kilroy esque?
(but still with the stache)

That's the Japan '82 show, the last night of the PT tour.

Sorry, It was labeled as 81 Largo, MD. But is odd if they are in Japan for Tommy to say that he is glad to be in the good ol USA....

I think what Allan meant is that it was in Japan that Dennis cut his hair, toward the very end of the tour.

Bingo. If you look at the Largo vs. Tokyo show, DDY's hair is different. In the Tokyo show, it looks like the Kilroy hair, and he's got the moustache. He shaves it onstage for some inexplicable reason.

What is a real shame is it seems only that hour from Tokyo exists. That's some pristine footage ...

Hey NH- This looks like a pro-shot deal. Was this available at one time? Never heard of it.
Man, listen to that crowd.

Okay, no HERE Dennis looks like he gives a shit and has a lot of energy. Very cool!

Shaw looks like freakin' Christy McNichol...
;)

In Blue Collar Man... JY, please don't wiggle your arse. Ughgh..

It's amazing at how much better of a singer Tommy is now compared to then.
Jy was a better singer then for sure.
Funny, I saw this tour in Seattle. They wore the exact same stuff and said mostly the exact same stuff.
This was a great show. I saw the Japanese one and it was like- not really great. you could tell they were burned out.
They've got great energy on this one. They should've released this to video.

Yes, Largo '81 is pro shot. That venue (the Capital Center in Largo, MD) shot a lot of the shows played there between the late 70s and early 80s. For what use? I don't know, but that's the source of this. It was never commercially available.

It should. It was probably for the video screens and somebody just snagged it. Very cool. Nice to John looking so young, healthy, and happy during the Grand Illusion.

In Seattle, I remember a horn section or at least a sax. Don't see that here.

The extended, Floyd-esque intro to "Snowblind" on this tour is fab, as is the 007 intro to "Great White Hope."

I'd love to get the Capital Center show from '83 if it's out there. That's the show Tommy smashed the guitar and stormed off stage, called his manager, and quit.

The Cornerstone show from 1980 may even exist ... it's the right timeframe.

Son of a bitch! This is REALLY great. I agree, the later Japan thing was nowhere near as good. Tommy seemed hammered in it and played well below par, and everyone seemed tired. THIS is KILLER! This is the kind of thing you can look at and you understand why Styx was, at that time, the most successful touring rock band in the world.

Well, that recorded Tokyo show is last date of the PT tour. DDY had started preliminary recording of KWH in Japan. Tommy begging for no more concept albums in Japan. Although I still like the Japan show. I never looked at it that way, Sterling.

I remember getting the Largo show in the early 90s and being blown away by it.

Man, I really gotta find someone with more Largo shows from Styx. Sigh.

Methinks you are thinking of the Cornerstone tour. On the first leg, it was just Styx. On the second leg, they had a horn section. On the PT tour, it was just Styx.
