Dear Friends,

Taylor put this new guitar in my hands in New York City on August 12 at a vdeo shoot in the home office of Guitar Magazine and last night at Jones Beach I played it on stage for the first time. It's so new it has not even been given a proper name yet.

I had the chance to play it and get familiar with it while video-taping a promo for a future Guitar World DVD and within minutes it felt like an old friend. I played it through the new 4-Channel Marshall Amplifier head and a Marshall 4X4 cabinet and liked the way it sounded but it wasn't until I plugged it into my own Marshall rig at the venue in Long Island a few minutes before doors opened to the public and heard it through the massive PA we're using on this tour with Def Leppard and Foreigner that I realized just how incredible this instrument is.

My guitar tech, Jimmy Johnson skipped dinner to do swap out the strap pegs with strap locks and give it a once over so that I could play it right away. I started the show with it, played it on "Blue Collar Man"--killer. "Grand Illusion"--excellent! I switched to another guitar for "Too Much Time" and by accident one of the the other band's tech's had forgotten to switch off a wireless pack that was on the same frequency so when Jimmy switched on the different pack to make the change there was that horrible squeal that only comes from two transmitters being on the same frequency at the same time, so he brought the new Taylor back for a third song! It sounded so good on the solo, especially that long sustained note at the end, I was sad to take the guitar off to play "Fooling Yourself."

As you probably noticed, I love my classic electric guitars--Gibsons, Fenders and my PRS. But this new guitar, aside from being a work of art esthetically, sounds so good it's all I can think about today. I woke up this morning wanting to get my hands on it and am going to have to wait because I'm in New York and it's in New Jersey where we play tonight.

Our friends at Taylor Guitars knew what the stakes were, getting into the solid body electric guitar market, and they have stepped up to the plate ready to play. This guitar is a home run.

Oh Froy!

I played a Taylor acoustic a friend had and would die to have one! Beautiful guitar with a great sound. Love the sound of Taylor Hick's Taylor as well. :D

This sounds like a really lovely guitar Tommy got. I enjoyed the note, too, so thanks, NH.

Sweet guitar, btw. I wonder if he ever sells his stuff secretly on ebay. (Like I have all sorts of money to buy one of his guitars! haha)

It sucked.

Interesting. Dennis website is talking about a current #1 single, and Styx is talking about a "Cool guitar" that he got to play on songs in that 30 minute opening act set that were hits 30 years ago.

I'd say a bit different in perspective...

I would be one of those we. totally boring post Tommy but since you don't have any successes to share with us, might as well talk about a guitar...the bathwater drinkers lap up anything you say...

maybe next time you can share how your morning bowel movement went - I'm sure they would love to hear about that.

Remember Nigel in "Spinal Tap" with the guitar that still had the tag hanging on it? Marty couldn't even point at it!

I guessing Tommy has an impressive collection, which I would love to see and point at, and also maybe get to play one or two? :)

Don't...point, even! It can't be played. Ever!

Can I look at it?

No! You've seen enough of that one
.

Haha...
You play the Gee-tar, Bugs? Got any recordings?

LOL! SUCH a great scene!!! And it looked like a cheezy guitar to begin with, but I am not sure. Since I couldn't really LOOK at it.

I have played for a long, long time. (I am OLD!). Mostly folk, finger picking style. I recorded years ago with a local Austin songwriter, but the tapes (and music) -- long lost.

I have a Guild 12-string and a couple of lesser acoustics. Used to have an electric guitar (Fender) but that is gone.

God people, if you don't like it, don't read it...
Personally, I love to hear what kind of music gear the band is using these days. I thought Tommy was using the Vox Valvetronix stuff for his amps? I know he was for a while. I didn't even realize Taylor made electrics.

I guess if Dennis had got on and said what brand of toupee' he was wearing these days, all the Tommy haters would've salivated over it and said how gosh darn neat it was.

This forum is so predictable.
Froy, don't you ever get tired of being a wanker?

That pic is going to cost me a lot of money. My bet is Taylor will retail those over $2k. Oh well, I can always use another guitar.

I've never heard of Tommy using Valvetronix amps. I checked out his rig extensively several months ago and it was all Marshall TSL.

Tommy has been playing Taylors since RTP. I'd wager he's had an endorsement deal with them for almost as long.

Hence what I said.

I'm a guitar player and that axe looks sweet, to say the least.

Besides, last time I saw Styx (Cyclorama Tour), Tommy's acoustic guitar sound blew me away, so a new guitar in the market is always good. :)
