Which of the following would you consider the most OVERRATED of Styx albums. Once again, only these choices (even if you think another album is more overrated - choose which one is the most overrated of the choices).

Pieces of Eight. One of their very, very BEST! I like it better than Grand Illusion. The title song and Queen of Spades are two of the best, evah!

You have got to be kidding....great album. Ranks right up there with Grand Illusion and Equinox for me. Cornerstone is way overrated. Yeah it sold 3 million copies but mostly on the momentum from Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight and the addition of a sappy elevator song that brought out the screaming teeny boppers.

I'd go with PT. Cornerstone is not great, IMO, but it's obviously still a polarizing piece of work, where PT is almost universally lauded by fans and the public...and I'm not sure why.

Probably because it's a masterpiece. Other than that, yeah, it's a piece of crap.

Pieces of Eight - A poor man's version of GI - the ideas were running dry at this point and needed a bit refreshing.

Kilroy Was Here is OVER-rated? Since when? Everybody rags on that one constantly. I have to say Grand Illusion because it's the ONLY album that it seems every fan excessively gushes over. While I do think it's probably the best cohesive Styx album ever, I don't think it's SO, SO, SO much better than PO8, PT or Equinox. I think they all have their high points, and I've never been one to think ANY Styx album is entirely flawless.

Rabid NewStyx apologists still rave about this album. I liked parts of it to be sure, but it ultimately comes across like a series of solo songs by the proganists as opposed to the cohesive "group effort" it was billed as.

I don't really think Styx has an overrated album.. "TGI" is raved about by the fans, and with good reason. Outside of "Superstars"(for me, personally), every song is solid. I love Styx, but I don't think this managed to happen too often with their albums. Most of their albums, even though they are usually on the shorter side, have at least two to three songs that I would probably tend to regard as filler(most bands/artists do). While it is on the shorter side, "TGI" flows very well and keeps with the general concept.
Next in line would probably be either "PT", "POE", or "Equinox"(in this order, too). "PT" is gold, but it may not appeal to all fans because it's much more based in a pop sound. Outside of "She Cares", which really isn't a bad listen, but just doesn't seem to be up to quite the same standards as the rest, there's not a song on there that doesn't work. I basically feel the same way about "POE" and "Equinox", but once you go beyond these albums, I start to find more tracks that I would consider filler. So, after all of this rambling, my general point would be that I think the albums that get the most praise, deserve the most praise..

Ah, a kindred spirit.
(so few people with me on the "Superstars" thing...)

I'm with you. Although, I can't say I dislike it as much as "She Cares," for example. I also agree about GTI in general being a mostly solid album. But to me, mostly solid doesn't equate with monumental gushing.
I'm also not mad keen on the end of TGF. The soliloques in either song don't butter my biscuit, as it were.
The rest, however, is great, even though I am sick of most of those songs by now.

She Cares is one of the only songs I like from Paradise Theater! Its a great song that just makes you feel better about life. Why would anyone not like this song?
