Lady or Babe?

What is your favorite between these two?

Personally, I like Lady so much more than Babe. Lady.. musically there is so much more depth to it than Babe. Great song. What redeeming value does Babe have? It would not bother me one bit if I never heard this song again as long as I lived.

Lady because Gowan is so sexy when he sings it. ;-)

Lady - by far.

Babe is too sappy for me. I also don't like the all Dennis harmonies on the track (live recording of it are better for me).

While it was not part of the poll, I think Best of Times is a better ballad than Babe for me.

There are a lot of people who used this song at their wedding that would disagree with you.

I vote for the only #1 Styx song, Babe.

Well, lyrically speaking, "Lady" doesn't run any deeper than "Babe", in fact, I'd be tempted to say that "Babe" is a little stronger, but "Lady" has more of an upbeat, catchy, not to mention, "classic" sounding melody.. I think it just depends on what you're in the mood for. "Lady" is a little more carefree; where "Babe" is a bit more sentimental. These days, I'd personally take "Lady", but I'm not going to say that it is or isn't a better song

Lyrically I could really care less what he is saying to or about his wife in either song...that is personal. Musically..Lady and not even close.

Always get a kick out of this. When the song starts ...."Babe, I'm leaving, I must be on my way" Such a romantic way to start a song. A song about being apart. Certainly a song for a longer relationship, but hardly one for a couple just starting out.

It's the folks who choose "Every Breath You Take" for their wedding song that worry me the most....

LOL...Remember the Stalk Talk show from SNL? That was their theme song.

I played (albeit not as my "wedding" song) Michael Bolton's "Said I Loved You But I Lied" at my first wedding. ;-)

(Shoulda known it was destined for disaster then. Not 'cuz of the song, but because we played Michael Bolton)

Lady. Only because it still sound fresh. I could tolerate Babe at a concert, but I've heard it enough times for this lifetime.

Oh, God... It's like apples & brussel sprouts to me. And, I *hate* brussel sprouts! Lady is by far the better song, IMO. If I never heard "Babe" again, it would be fine with me. I certainly don't miss hearing it at the Styx shows, but it also means that I don't get a bathroom break any more.

"Babe" also sounds fairly dated to the late '70s(at least the studio version). "Lady" has more of a timeless sound to it. I still don't think it's exactly fair to compare the two, though, because "Babe" is more of a romantic, sentimental song; where "Lady" is somewhere between a power ballad and a rocker.

I can't imagine anyone using "Babe" at a wedding, LOL.. I actually originally thought the song was about needing some space from a relationship; not just the separation from being on the road..

I don't think Dennis is that vague. His lyrics tend to be pretty to the point. Plus, I think since it's written for Suzanne, it can't be about needing space, unless he had a death wish.

I used "Paradise" at my 2nd wedding (and Gary Glitter's "I Love You Love Me" lol), but for me, there weren't any wedding appropriate Styx songs when I got married the first time. We danced to Tommy's version of "Ever Since the World Began" for that one.

I would argue that Castle Walls, Come Sail Away, Queen of Spades, Pieces oF Eight, Borrowed Time, Suite Madame Blue, Rockin The Paradise, etc. have meanings on multiple levels....
