"Write to Styx at...."

Does anyone remember in the glory days when the band would invite you to write to them in the album linear notes?

Did anyone ever do it?

I remember I did when I was 13. I asked them if it was true if they worshipped the devil (remember the Snowblind fiasco) and all I received was an invitation to join their fan club.

I remember one of the things included in the package if you joined the fan club was a "heavy duty membership card"!

Anyone else?

OH yeah, I was a member of the fan club. I never wrote to them though.

I remember this Styx sticker that I had received from the fan club and had it prominently displayed on my favorite school binder. :-) I probably would have worn it on my forehead back then if I had been allowed! LOL

Oh yeah - I wrote several times. Are you kidding? I was 12. To me, that was the coolest thing ever.

I think by the time I wrote, however, the band was breaking up (or already had broken up). Though, I did get 5 letters back from Tommy in Kalamazoo. Damn, you couldn't peel me off the ceiling. I still have them somewhere!

Check the bottom of your bird cage. :D

I wrote them once, and got back a letter from JY asking for money. 8)

I got a response from Dennis once when he was in Styx and it only had a picture of himself and Suzanne with a headline that said STYX. I thought, what the hell is this? Right then my opinion changed of him.

I think you get the award for person who hates a Styx persona the most. It was between you and Rajah for awhile, but I think you surpassed him. Keep up the hate, guys!

Have you noticed a pattern about ChicagoStyx's posts at all? I mean, other than that he's filled with hatred, and stuff. ;-)

A hint would be to read all of Blue Falcon's, Darwin Nebraska's, Rajah's, and Froy's posts as well.

I guess I haven't been on the board long enough, because I'm not getting it either. (And I'm as brunette as it gets ...)

Are you sure about that? ;-)

j/k

OK, and I know we've covered this ground before, but just so's we're on the same page:

ChicagoStyx *usually* only bothers to post his "campaign of hate" in response to one of the aforementioned posters, who have undoubtedly made some asinine or otherwise redundant remark about JY's drug habit and/or songwriting abilities, Gowan's voice/spinning keyboard, Tommy's drug habit/grungy appearance, (insert band member here's) financial desperation, or anything along those lines.
*Often, as if this was the very first time anyone has thought up something so original and hilarious, forgetting the fact that it's the fifth time this week they've said the same exact thing.

Not saying it's always the mature thing to do, but he does provide the wink to the wank, if you will.

But to say he's THE WORST of all is just silly, since the only reason he does it is because of their ridiculousness. Does he like Dennis or his work? Probably a little. Does he think this hero worship and the often...over-exaggeration of his successes goes a bit too far? I do believe so!

*This bit does not apply to Froy, who just says asinine things in general and doesn't care about appearing funny or original because...well, Froy just doesn't give a damn.

I don't know if this makes a difference, but the post I originally was refering to was "grotelul"'s post. I think that you are wrong in thinking that DDY fans are the only one's hero worshipping, over-exagerating success, etc. And this is coming from someone who goes to the Styx board AFTER the Journey board, but I have read some really outlandish claims about Tommy Shaw's solo albums, etc.

To me - Styx is the band that existed between Grand Illusion and Kilroy Was Here. Its probably different on a board full of hardcore Styx fans - but I think I speak for most ROCK fans (who wouldn't list Girls With Guns as one of their favorite albums - I mean, c'mon!). I like Dennis Deyoung quite a bit, he is always the one I associate with Styx. I think his balladry gets over exaggerated by fans of new Styx. He was NOT responsible for all of Styx's sappy ballads nor was Tommy and JY soley responsible for Styx's rock edge. BUT - I think "Styx" is the collective of those three guys. I think those styles mix in just the right way to make unique and interesting music.

D'oh! Grotelul, ChicagoStyx...My bad. They both tend to post in retaliation, however. Neither one "hate."

I do HATE.......

lima beans, cold dark rainy days, new country music, long lines at the grocery store, summers that go by too quickly, old lady hair spray that smells like bug repellent and stupid posts on message boards. I DO NOT hate any current or former member of Styx.

Actually, thats why I don't minds Froy's posts compared to the others.

We are almost at 10 years here and there are people on both sides still at it (and some band members won't seem to let it go either). Good thing there was no internet available when the Beatles broke up.

See what I mean? lol

I gotta disagree on the lima beans and cold, dark rainy days, tho. There are times when I enjoy both. :)
