last night I saw Genesis in Boston. It was a 2 hr 45 minute show with no intermission. They dug deep into the catalog from the 70's and skipped through there songs of the 80's.(note they didn't skip the 80's stuff)> I was really a fan of the 80's stuff and only was fairly familiar with there seventies stuff, but man did they rock.
If you like the band, it's a good show. Including the wrap around hi def screen at the back of the stage and high production stuff. Best seats would be looking straight at the screen, we were off to the side and alot of the video was blocked.
Surprisingly enough the concert was at a volume that was great to hear the music and be able to hear a normal conversation after the show.

I saw them on Sunday night.... had phenominal seats... one of my very favorite bands ever.
They played a fairly balanced show covering all their eras.... definitely a weird crowd though.

I would add that they are really startign to look old. As many classic rock stars are.
The mix of the crowd was weird. Lots of older people - 50's and 60's than 30 and 40 somethings.

I thought Boston was a lame crowd compared to the one in Twickenham in July. Phil's voice was in better shape than Twickenham, though.
The production was better on the outdoor show and it'll be evident on the DVD coming out. The stage was bigger.

Thanks for posting! Man, I hope this comes out on DVD!! My biggest gripe when I saw them on their last tour (back in 1992) was that 85% of the material was from their last 2-3 albums. I guess I really shouldn't gripe too much about that - since that's when they were the most "popular".
One of the things I love about Genesis (and Rush, now that I think about it) is that they somehow manage to get a live recording of most of their material out there that they've performed.

I believe this Genesis tour you can buy a live cd of every show on the tour. I just got an email on it the other day.

Thanks for the setlist.
I have to wait until mid-October to see them here in California.
I noticed Abacab was missing from the list. That's a key song to not play. But they do have so much material they could be on that stage all night!

"Hold On My Heart" is lame... at least "I Can't Dance" is fun.
I hit the bathroom during HOMH.

It's not a fave of mine but Hold On My Heart is one
I do enjoy when the mood strikes me.
I'll agree with you on I Can't Dance, it is a fun lil song.

They haven't played Abacab since '84 I think. I don't remember it from the Invisible Touch tour (either the 86 or 87 legs; I saw both). So it's not unprecedented that it's not in the set. I'd love to hear it, but they clearly have no love for it. It was worked out during rehearsals, tho.

I missed the last tour in 91/92. I am going to miss not hearing Abacab, but some of the songs on this list are going to be great to hear.
I love all the songs from Duke.
How did Phil's voice sound during Mama?? That's a tough song on the voice to do every night!

I have seen them 2x on this tour - Twickenham (outside of London) and Boston. Phil's voice was a bit raspy in Twickenham but fine in Boston. They've dropped the keys at least one whole step on many tunes (and in some cases, a bit more than a whole tone), but that's OK. At least they're being realistic. Everything for the most part sounds fine. Most people won't notice.
I will be in San Jose when they're there and may see 'em again before I fly out the next day. I'll see. I've already spent a lot to see 'em lol

Hey, I was going on memory. I saw both the 86 and 87 legs and it must not have stood out. They didn't play it on the WCD for sure, though.

Allan, Have you been to San Jose before? I would like to give you ideas of what to do while you are in town, but the fact of the matter is that San Jose is by far the most BORING Large city I have ever been to. And I live here!
I have been to most of the large cities in this country (San Jose is now ranked number 10 in population) and San Jose's downtown is by far the worst. Other than the Shark Tank, where the concert is, there is really nothing appealing about the downtown area. I had more fun in towns like Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Seattle!
I say head up to San Francisco or Napa for some fun.
Anyway, thanks for the Genesis info. Should be a great show.

Actually, I thought he sounded better on Mama than on a lot of the other stuff.

That's because you still live with yours.
