And damn, JY, you all certainly have had the success since Dennis left you. 45 minutes sets in the daylight before 2 other bands and crappy albums that no one has bought....

For JY and all his "handlers" that may read this board - here is a better answer that doesn't piss off half the fan base...

Hey, JY, what is the f'n point anymore. As I know you read here, shut the f up. You would be nothing, doing nothing, without the success that Dennis brought to Styx. As I have asked you in person before, then why the f did you rejoin Dennis in '91? Ah yes, $$$$$$$. Styx would not be even be known as well as they are without the hits that Dennis brought to the group.
Yes, Tommy played a role too, but it was Dennis 'Lady' that first put them on the map, and it's mostly his hits that are known the most and bring most people to a Styx show. Tommy's too, but not yours buttmunch.
What are you going to do as Tommy keeps doing things with Blades, NR and when he joins Dennis? You and Lawrence can have lots of fun together.

JY has not really changed his tune in interviews at all. Honestly, if one does not have a lot of knowledge of band history, readers of interviews like this probably have no idea who the individual members were/are. So the "original keyboard player" comment would go right over their heads. The only thing they might glean from this interview is JY's propensity for ridiculous, completely unearned pomposity. Again. Nothing new there.

Reality is biting JY pretty hard these days, so he needs to keep pumping up that the current incarnation of Styx is both a success and in a better place than years' past. Some might actually agree with this. I sure don't.

For four decades, James “J.Y.” Young has been to hell and back.

The sole remaining original member of the rock band Styx, Young told KTW the fact he can still take the stage is like he died and went to heaven.

“To me, the greatest joy I find in my life on a regular basis is when I’m on stage performing and there’s this incredible reaffirmation and love for what we have collectively created,” he said, noting, however, it hasn’t always been roses. (OK, GOOD So Far)

On tour with Def Leppard and Foreigner, Styx will perform solo in Kamloops on Sept. 28 at Interior Savings Centre.

Along with longtime member Tommy Shaw, Young is the only other member in the band from its heyday.

While two of the original members died, Young said the mysterious absence of founding member Dennis DeYoung, the man behind the cult classic Mr. Roboto, was based on philosophical difference.

“We philosophically parted company with our original keyboard player [DeYoung], who was obviously instrumental in our success in the beginning. (OK, Still GOOD So Far)

“[Styx], to me, was a progressive rock band that took a couple of very wrong turns in the late ’70s and early ’80s — and that, among other things, broke the band up for 13 years.

“But this whole thing has really evolved into a true labour of love in the sense that our music has had a profound affect on people in ways that we never dreamed,” said Young. (OK, Still GOOD So Far, nothing really offensive)

“We really focus on the power of music and the impact it has on the human race and our role as stewards of this amazing power.” (Yah, OK)

Preferring heavy, guitar-driven rock music, while Shaw is more introspective, Young said “it’s always been the middle ground where all our tastes meet” that has fueled the popularity of Styx music over the years.

At its upcoming concert, he said the band will play mostly old hits for those first- and second-generation fans who expect to hear the songs “from their glorious misspent youth,” like Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Come Sail Away, Too Much Time on my Hands, Miss America and Snowblind.

But the band also has new music to unleash. Cool

With original influences sound-wise, Young said the lyrics for the new stuff are a bit more mature and come from a more knowledgeable perspective.

“It’s very difficult, even for a band that is as successful as The Who and the Rolling Stones, to get meaningful airplay on new music,” he added, noting the flat release of the original Styx 2003 album, Cyclorama.

“But, nonetheless, as artists we are driven to do so and shall continue to do so.” (OK, GOOD So Far)

Also passionate about the environment, Styx has hopped on the green-tour bandwagon, performing and travelling in an environmentally friendly manner.

“We’re about celebrating the joy in finding the good in each day,” said Young.

“And it’s when we hit that stage, that’s the time we help the whole audience find the good that we’ve found.”




So where is the outright Dennis bashing that we usually get from JY? A lot has changed here. Nice to see some of you trash him without reading the article.
There's no our current keyboard player is better than the one he replaced. No runs circles around his predecessor. Just "our original keyboard player". Doesn't get much tamer than that, even from JY

Not sure I follow. They seemed to have a hit song and album in 1991. Granted it wasn't the classic Paradise Theatre was, but they had a new member and nobody had seen or heard from them in 6 years... all in all, a #3 single and a gold album isn't bad. It certainly didn't detract from Styx the way that say...

The "Sans DeYoung" lineup has now been existance for 8 years: 1999 - 2007. Can anybody honestly say this has been a more successful period than the 8 year period from 1975 - 1983??
