Grand Illusion - Remastered ????

I know this has been covered before and there were some plans in the works. I just bought the FOREIGNER (fist album) remaster from Rhino and it rocks. The sound is great. Four bonus tracks (demos.) Nice packaging with the insert.

Isn't there a market to do this with GI? Besides, I lost my CD to a friend who borrowed it and my turntable needs a new stylus and the vinyl is probably warped anyway from sitting in the basement. I am "waiting" for the remaster. Dam it.

I emailed someone at Universal and he said there are no plans to re-master any of the catalog.

The compilations are about the only remasterings of the Styx A&M catalog you'll see unless something changes. Styx remasters were announced in 1995 and scrapped (the press release for GH references them - GH was supposed to kick them off). Then a few years later they started showed up on European lists as coming out and those went away. Finally, there was a rumor a few years back that Uni wanted to do a Deluxe Edition of Grand Illusion, but it was essentially nixed because the band didn't want the bonus material on there (it was going to be that '77 show that A&M has in the vaults).

I don't think we'll EVER see any Styx remasters because it would likely require the cooperation of DDY, JY, and Tommy.

Which is about as likely as India and Pakistan becoming bosom buddies. JY doesn't want that old 'crap' seen because DDY's name is listed on most of the songwriting credits...gee, I wonder why? The last thing he or Tommy wants is for people to see just how much DDY meant to the group.

After all, if this is the BEST LINEUP OF STYX EVER then what was all that 70s crap??

TFP: 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of “The Grand Illusion.” What made that record special?

Young: I know during the creative process that went into making that record, I think perhaps never before and perhaps maybe even never after that were we all so personally and professionally pointed in the same direction. Dennis came up with a great notion for a concept of a record, and we all sort of rose to the occasion and did some great work together ... and then that was sort of our moment in time.

Yep, that's our JY. Nothing but trashing DDY & the 70s. Clearly, he must be stopped.

Well..don't you think the record company who owns the rights to these tapes has a say? Universal has no desire and sees no need to do this at this time so what are you gonna do?

In the future after this incarnation of Styx slows down or breaks apart and maybe after one more tour with Dennis, we may possibly see some of these things happen. I don't see it happening anytime soon.

The only way I could see it happening is if they all kissed and made up, then the tour would push the sales. Otherwise, it's only a few thousand people that would buy them now just because they were remastered. It would likely comeout as a set to make everyone buy the whole thing.
