This is a first for me here.
I have read from here and the Van Halen site for some time now. I have never posted. Retirement( semi) makes for strange bed fellows.
Last night I finished reading Chucks book. I must say it touched me in ways that I am at a loss to explain.
Since the needle of my old Sounddesign touch the opening riffs of the Grand Illusion I was hooked on Styx. Since I have been reading here on and off for over two years I must admit I am one of the few who has love all their albums sans the Wooden Nickle car collection 5. Kilroy almost replaced The Grand Illusion as my all time favorite.
I almost posted immediately after seeing Dennis freeze and shine New Years Eve at Niagra Falls. The evening was magical. Never have I seen a performer with his flair. I actually got to meet him after the show( I will tell another time). I also saw him perform in Quebec three times, and I will be seeing the first two showings of his Hunchback musical.
Now this leads me to Styx. I have never seen them perform without Mr. DeYoung. I am such a fan of Tommy Shaw, and Chuck is my absolute favorite.
So should I call Delta and go see them?
I look forward to hearing from some of you. The passion displayed here is great.

Ahhhhhhhhhh a Newbster!!!!
Hell no dont go see em, Styx sucks without Dennis. They are a cover band!!!! Slap........ X2.......
Sorry there Newbster, I just had to slap the shit out of myself. I almost became Froy.
Hell yes go see em!!! If youve got the time and the jack, they put on an excellent show. None of em are going to be around forever. It's been 10 years since Dennis was on stage with em. It is what it is.
We get em both now so we might as well enjoy.
Speaking of enjoyment, Have you heard DDY's new CD???? It is AWESOME!!!!!!! Crossing The Rubican is Dennis and Styx as good as it ever was. Plus there is about 5 other GREAT tunes on this CD. Ya gotta get it!!!
Since it sounds like you are a Canuck, it was released up there last summer. The US version should be out here soon.
Enjoy Dennis, but go see Styx. I am in the minority, but you CAN like them both!!!
Kilroy Was Here????????????????????????????????????????? Barrrrrrrrrffffffffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the Jungle!
I think Yogi gave you great advice, CW.
There is a thread here, I think, listing the Current Styx dates up there in Canada, so maybe you could catch them there as well.

I am so excited I can't see straight. A good friend of mine and I just booked our travel plans to see Styx perform four times in California and once in Las Vegas.
We are going to arrive in LA on February 11 and take in all of their shows from the 13th thru the 17th. We will wind up in Vegas on the 17th, and fly back home on the 20th. What a vacation. I just can't wait.
I believe all of the shows we are seeing are at The House of Blues except one performance that is in a town called Temecula. This is so exciting. I have already booked tickets for the first three shows and we got a great deal on airfare, hotel, and car rental through Cheap Tickets.com.
Will any of you be attending these shows?

youve got to remember that most people that post here are diehards, and over time have become jaded to the bands/people we post about, if you enjoy the songs that they play go see them sit back an enjoy. ive been to about 8 shows styx have opened in the last 10 years, i have not watched the last 7 or so, but i did listen and they sound good.just not the same for me without dennis(so why the hell do i like journey without steve perry, to each his own.)
make your own opinions and welcome to the chaos of mrforums.
post freely.

I'm serious... I might audition if I had the chance. Everyone tells me I sound like DDY (or Michael Sweet). I know no one could ever, ever replace Dennis, just as no one could replace Steve Perry. But an audience usually seems to react very favorably to a singer that can give them "that sound", ya know?

Thank you MCM for the well wishes.
I have never taken a vacation like this in my entire life. It is so exciting. I have lived in hotels for weeks at a time back when I was working. Most of the time it was enjoyable, but it was still work and I knew that it was to put food on the table.
I am going to take my lap top with me and I am also going take some of my new photography gear. I am secretly hoping that the band will allow me to get some photos of them.
I am not here to push any sort of agenda but I must comment on my experience so far with Cheap tickets.com. A women that I used to work with told me about this site and so far I have gotten an unbelieveable price on airfare. We are staying at two five star, and one four star hotel for the price of a Motel Six. Our car rental for one week is what you would usually expect to pay for two or three days.
I thought I would print this just in case any of you have travel plans.
I will try to report any exciting news from the shows along with their setlist.

It is Christmas in February for me.
Will any of you be attending any of these California shows?
I am bringing my laptop and will report what I think.
