Ideas for DDY to poke fun at Styx

Postby Roboto750 » Thu Feb 14, 2008 9:57 am

I was thinking back to the Styx Behind the Music episode the other day and how Tommy would make fun of Styx/”Babe” while on tour with Damn Yankees for a while. I began to wonder, what if Dennis put a few jabs like that into his shows. I came up with a few ideas I thought were a little funny and decided to share them.

But, before I go there, let me first say that I could never see Dennis doing anything like this, nor would I really want him too. It’s just not in his character. I am also a fan of those in “Styx.” I just got a bit of a chuckle when I thought about this and am just having a bit of fun. :D

Idea #1 -

(drum beats)
Dennis: Are you ready? I said, ________, are you ready? Are you ready for…….. Mr. Roboto?

(in reference to JY’s “Miss America” intro and JY’s apparent hatred for “Mr. Roboto”)

Idea #2-

Dennis brings out a keyboard that is attached to a pole and spins (in one direction). He keeps spinning it and it unscrews itself from the pole and falls off onto the stage.

(in reference to Gowan’s spinning keyboard)

Idea #3 –

(Dennis positions himself at his keyboard and begins to play the intro to “Blue Collar Man”)
Guitarist: Hey Dennis, I think there’s something wrong with your keyboard!
(Guitarist walks over and smashes the keyboard and they begin into another DDY song)

(in reference to Tommy playing the intro to “Babe” and Ted smashing the guitar afterward on the Damn Yankees tour)

That’s about it. Any other ideas?

lol on the blue collar man idea. But how exactly could you smash a keyboard? That would be pretty hard.

Yeah, it would be a bit hard, maybe they could pull out an axe or something (with unplugging the keyboard first, LOL)!

He could take a mannequin of the Crypt Keeper on tour with him, and put him onstage with a guitar slung around his neck. Then he could refer to him as his "former guitarist JY."

he could introduce the next song at a show by saying something like.........

for over 20 years I performed in a band called Styx, we parted ways a few years back, partly because they thought the music I wrote for the band didnt rock enough. But I believe in letting bygones be bygones, and so tonight in tribute to those guys, I'd like to perform one of the songs from their most recent rockin CD......

( DDY and the band then perform a version of "Yes I can" or "Just be")

 to all those ideas!

I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for this, but who exactly is Steve Smith? I've seen him mentioned in several other Styx threads, but I can't place the name. Was he one of those "was once part of the band, but no one realizes it" people? :?:

Thanks!

One has to wonder if his drums will be made out of old ice cream pails, hub cab symbols and of course, the handymans secret weapon, duct tape!!!

Pump out songs from JY's 'Out On A Day Pass' before he takes the stage at any of his upcoming shows.

Then again Dennis is too nice to do that to his fans!!!
