a question for any "old timers" out there.........

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who attended Styx concerts prior to their becoming a supergroup........I didnt get to see them until the Main Event tour circa 1979-80.

If you saw tours supporting GI, CB, or even during the wooden nickle LP's what was it like ?
I hear they did some covers of other bands songs.....which ones did you see ( and were they any good ?)

I've always thought I was born a few years too late, and missed some really great shows.
( Pink FLoyd came through my town on their Dark side of the moon tour !!!!!! unfortunately, I was 10 years old at the time. )

I digress, am interested in any feedback for these early tours.....anyone ?

XXX

But thanks for playing.

I was not affected by the outages. There are several million people in Florida - only a couple hundred thousand were hit by the failures.

:P

They didn't do any covers during the GI tour that I was aware of... I don't think there was any Wooden Nickel stuff played either (not counting Lady which was played).
The Main Event Tour was 78 (Pieces of Eight)- don't remember any covers
The Grand Decathlon Tour was 79-80- Don't remember covers

I think that on the CB tour they played some Wooden Nickel stuff, but I've only seen a few boots of those shows and didn't actually see them till the GI tour which was a great show, btw.

I don't recall them doing any covers from at least the GI tour on ( those are the forst shows I saw). Kilroy had a cover or 2...I can remember "Great Balls of Fire"

I never did see them in the early days or even the hey-day. But when I was living in Missouri I talked to someone who said Styx played her Prom. She said they played standards from the top 40 at the time. Another friend said he used to go see them in Carbondale. He said he was 15 or 16 and used to sneak in to see them. This was during the Wooden Nickel days. I asked him what they played and he said covers and originals. He said "John Cerlewski only sang one song, "Krakatoa" which wasn't even a song, just yelling in a mic". He went on to add, much like the bickering of today's fans, that "Styx wasn't the same after JC left. I never went to see them again. I am proud to say the ONLY Styx I have seen is the original Styx. They went downhill after Equinox". I chuckled at this and thought about today's fans being no different.

It really is a shame that froy is not doing anything about this request.
He is the only one here in our little forum who was there.
Well we did get the duel and patch thing, and that they blew BTO off the stage.
Yet we get the same old tripe.
Too bad really.

My first Styx show was The Main Event Tour ( Minnesota State Fair, New England was the warm up band).

I had a chance to see them when the played The St. Paul Civic Center or maybe it was the St. Paul Auditorium during the Grand Illusion Tour. They were the headline act. Anyway, my parents were against it. It ended up that I had a hockey game that night anyway(Bantams) so they didnt let me go. I was 14 at the time and if I would of had any balls I would have skipped the game. A couple of my friends went and said it was GREAT.

That was just last week. It's the only tour Styx can headline now.

I saw them when... in 76 or 77... I don't remember. I was too STONED!! Shit, it's like people don't even remember going to concerts and "lighting up", having a good damn time and listening to some kick-ass music... How the hell am I supposed to remember details??!!!!
Hmm, but I don't think they played any covers. And the first song was always "Light Up". To which, (OF COURSE) EVERYONE usually obliged. Oh, wait...the time limit for charges on something like that has run out.....right? :? :? :P
