JRNY Time 3 sucked
And I agree The Real Stx should do that
But JY won't pub Dennis so that is a dead issue.
Rare Live would be nice

We don't need any more CD's with hits on it. Been done to death. Rare live recordings, demos yes but there is no desire to do this now and besides as has been talked about already, what do they have and does anyone know where it is if it does exist? JY mentioned once on a Rockline show that he came across a live recording from the Paradise Theater tour in a warehouse (not sure what warehouse this is but I think it may be where they store all of the staging equipment) so maybe someday when they finally stay home we might see something. Demos, alternate takes...very little of that around if I understand correctly

I would think something along BIlly Joel's My Lives would be nice. But JY would never agree to it.

Here's the bottom line, folks.
a) As I said in the other thread, it is unlikely they know where some of this stuff is (but I bet DDY still has some of it and since he has little to no say in releases at this point it seems, well, do the math.)
b) They won't release remasters of albums - you think you're going to get rare stuff?
c) What is known to be in the vaults - mainly the live 77 stuff - was nixed for the now cancelled Deluxe Edition of GI.
d) As for other live stuff, I know someone close to the band verified some of it does exist, but again, I doubt it would see release.
You people can continue to live in your fantasy world that rare Styx stuff will surface, but I'm under no such delusions.
I think they only way it'll ever even remotely happen - and I doubt it even then - is if there is a reconciliation.
Until then, have fun speculating away.

I do not see a market for any of this stuff, frankly. Sad for Styx fans, but we don't count with the bean counters.
One thing I would love, and it actually could be possible, is a Classic Albums (or recordings or whatever those are called) edition for either The Grand Illusion (my preference) or Paradise Theater.
I have seen a number of these and the artists are not necessarily in the same room when they talk about the creative process and mixing work that went into creating the album being discussed. Case in point was a wonderful one for Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Really interesting stuff and the players were interviewed separately. I have seen other albums in this series and they have all been quite fascinating.
More speculating, I suppose, on my part.

I just see this as more doable.

In other news, Israel and Hamas sign binding peace agreement.
Ain't gonna happen, 'cause it requires JY and DDY to be in the same room.

Not really. I don't see it as viable. I love the Classic Albums series, but Styx ain't getting one. It also requires them locating the multitrack masters. Considering DDY arguably did a great deal of the producing in those days, it would be more of a DDY-led effort when they show the behind the board scenes. I don't see JY giving up that control.
I'd love to see GI more than PT, but you'll see more Floyd and the Who well before they even meander to Styx.

It doesn't require them being in the same room, but on the same page. 'nuff said.

It's not often that one gets the chance to observe an urban legend being built from the ground up before their very eyes. Styx fans of the past 10 years have been privileged to witness a few, one of which is this notion that all of the stuff with the split boils down to a pivotal conflict between JY & DDY. Pretty remarkable, the chain reaction that one segment of a television show can kick off.

Well exactly. By the same page I mean all parties involved in whatever legal agreements are in place. It's not just JY and DDY, but they are two main players. There's TS, CP, and management who all will influence or have a say in some of this stuff.
There's no doubt that the two that will have the farthest distance to cross to get to the same page will be JY and DDY, but by no means should the silly myth continue.

Well, let's say Styx DID actually manage to put out a box set...what do you think would/should be on it?
I have some ideas for how to separate the discs and what to title them:
Disc 1: Wooden Nickel Years
Disc 2: JY's Hard Rockin' Disc
Disc 3: Cringe-Inducing Ballads
Disc 4: Crap From 1990 Onwards

I'd buy that!
But you forgot: Cheesy Lyrics & Concepts Gone Wrong

Plus, the 'rare live stuff' would have the same lead ins as they do now...
"WE HAD DREAMS!"
"SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS"
"ALL THAT STUFF IN MOVIES AND MAGAZINES, IT'S ALL BULLSHIT. IN FACT, IT'S MORE LIKE A GRAND ILLUSION"
"BACKWARDS SATANIC MESSAGES..."-
They've said this same stuff since these songs were originally released. GAWD- get some new banter.
Rare live stuff, unless it's filmed, would be pointless as a release. I don't care if I ever hear anymore live stuff from Styx.
I remember reading, just before Cornerstone came out, that they were working on a song called "Worshiping Heroes". Not sure why I remember that, but I do. Maybe that's out there, or maybe it became "Don't Wait for Heroes" (dumb song). Who knows? Unless there are rare studio cuts or alternate versions of the classics (ala, Crystal Ball) then it wouldn't be that interesting.
And yes "Time 3" was pretty lame. Not enough buried stuff. With the exception of "With a Tear", I think real fans had most of that stuff already.

And let's not forget this classic:
"ARE YOU READY? I SAID ARE YOU READY (NAME OF CITY)? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!! ARE YOU READY FOR......MISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS AMERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRICCCCCCCCCCCCAAAAAA...."

It'd be nice to hear stuff they only did on one tour, such as "Nothing Ever Goes As Planed", the "007/Great White Hope" thing from the PT tour, etc. Plus, I don't feel that CITA is the best live document from the classic lineup. I think there are much better (ahem) unofficial soundboard representations - especially the Mantra studios show.
I think it would be interesting to hear the things known to have been recorded at least in demo form (such as the Styx version of "Chain Me Down", JY rumored to be singing the last verse of "Come Sail Away", etc.). None of it will ever surface.

Not until one certain James Young passes from this Earth. Heck, even then his wife will refuse to cooperate because DDY's wife called her the b-word backstage in Cleveland in 1981.
Eventually someone will have to break. Courtney Love held up the release of the Nirvana box set for 10 years because she didn't think the other guys deserved any royalties from it...after all, all they did was play on Nirvana's albums.

Love's finances weren't doing too well though, so she finally relented.
I'm guessing none of it will happen until JY and Tommy decide to hang it up as far as touring. Maybe 10 years from now they'll drop this ridiculous feud and give the fans what they deserve.

At this juncture, this "feud" is really more in the minds of some fans. I don't think DDY or TS care, and JY seems to have toned it down and if anything, is just being consistent in his message from day one to now. Everyone's making money. Everyone's doing what they want. Sure, it's fun to play the DDY vs. JY card, but I would really doubt if JY sits and stews each day at new ways to "stick it" to DDY. And vice versa.

Not actually...the full story is, She caught Suzanne going through JY's sock drawer and threw a shoe at her, which hit her in the head. Disoriented and confused, Suzanne screamed out "witch!" thinking it was Linda Blair that threw the shoe at her (she was never a fan of The Exorcist, or her dating TS, really), and Suzie got her feelings hurt because she thought SDY called her the b-word (which wasn't really fair, considering Suzanne was going through her husband's sock drawer, you know?). As a result, she ran straight to Dennis with this, and he became her pseudo psychiatrist. After awhile, Suzie started referring to Dennis as "Doctor," and well, you all know the rest of that story.

Why should imaginary characters get to have all the fun making up stories dressed up as matters-of-fact?
