Time for Something New!

Anyone agree that it would be interesting to change things up and have some the ol' guys do something new? I'm tiring of the same tours, same songs, same worn out threads...

How bout getting Shaw, Schon, Blades, Castronovo...mix in a Nugent or a Paul Rogers if you want and have a new and improved Damn Yankees sort of thing. Write some new music, tour with it while playing some Styx, Journey, Night Ranger, Damn Yankees, Bad Company, etc. Hell, if everyone insists on doing covers, they may as well cover their own stuff. It would sure protect the legacies of these bands and the combined songwriting talents would surely generate some good s&!t.

That would get me re-enthused. I'd buy the CD and I'd definitely go to a show or two.

I think many of us here have been asking for both of them to mix it up some. But then again, what do the die hards know when they are trying to cater to the casual fan.

Alas something different would be nice. Something like the VH1 Classic "....& Friends" shows that they did with Heart and Cindy Lauper would be cool, an acoustic show, or even fan favorites where they dig into the deeper catalog - sorta what DDY started with then walked away from with Lost Treasures. They could even change it up a ton and split a show by playing one album in its entirety then coming back to a greatest hits package to do a show. But they would need to bring back the 2+ hour shows again to do such.

If they are in the "must play the hits" way of thinking, perhaps they could make the winter tours where they are in the smaller venues to the same areas for the second time in the year to be these more die hard fan shows that changes it up a bit.

I like the idea......perhaps even a CD of new original tunes as well.......it's been done before, anybody remember the Traveling Wilburys ???

If DDY can put out a CD of original material that measures up favorably to his earlier/better stuff I would think getting a few of the eras better songwriters together could yield some great results !

What do we want from our beloved '70's bands? New music? Uhh..not really. I haven't heard very much of anything new out of these people that I would consider great music. Give me remastered original albums with rare stuff and I will be happy.

I don't know...I really liked a few off Cyclorama, Toto Falling in Between...damn good, even REO's latest has a couple of songs that could have been classic in the day. I like the classics, don't get me wrong. Just like to hear somethin new. Just don't screw with the classics. Remaster great...just don't re-record. That will taint my memories...which is what it is really all about.

I like what Kid Rocks's doing on this tour - it is him, Rev. Run, J. Geils, and Lynard Skynard - and they are doing an old fashion Rock and Roll review show. Kid Rock plays a few - then performs with J. Geils for a few, the Rev. comes out does a few, Skynard does a few, etc.... They all play together for about 3 hours.
How about Styx, Big and Rich, Allison Krause, and Nicleback??
Any other ideas????
