Styx & Chilliwack in Red Deer March 18/08

The show was fabulous, again (as in Edmonton on the 15th). The guys were well-rested and bouncing around the larger stage at the Red Deer Centrium. The crowd was bigger than in Edmonton--I don't know the capacity of the venue, so I'm not sure what the attendance was...

Chilliwack was really good, although Bill Henderson can't quite reach all of the high notes anymore. However, his years of experience shine through and he pulls the music together in other ways. They have a lot of great songs, and when you hear them all together it really makes an impression. I will be looking for a greatest hits CD out there now. The audience was appreciative and they got a standing O at the end, but everyone was waiting for Styx, so they didn't get called back. They played for an hour.

Everyone was really excited to see Styx and the audience, up front at least, (I didn't really check in the back) was standing from the first notes on. My friend and I had third row seats and could have moved up to the rail, but didn't. We moved up one row when the girls ahead did go up, and had nobody right in front of us, so it was great. We took a lot of pyx and a couple of videos on my camera, so once I get them uploaded, I will send a link or post them.

The set list was pretty much the same, if not identical, as in Edmonton. The guys had a lot more room to move on the bigger stage, so that was great, and Tommy and JY did a bit more talking between songs this time than in Edmonton. Gowan used the larger stage to advantage, and Ricky seemed to be having a good time. Todd was great, as always. He didn't do a long drum solo like the other night, but had a shorter one. The show was another 2 hour show. Love that!! They were all in great form and great voice--another awesome show!

The guys got called back for the encore, as usual, but they make it pretty clear that the show is over after Renegade, by turning on the lights and playing some of the songs from Cyclorama, etc. on the sound system, so that was it.

I was fairly impressed with the venue, so if someone else was playing there that I really liked, I might make another road trip sometime.

My girlfriend almost got a Ricky pick, but the lights blinded her and someone else got it instead. Other than that no swag for us...the young girls seemed to get a lot of it ;-)!

We had a fabulous time! After the long waits between Styx shows in this neck of the woods, to see them 3 times in 5 months has been terrific!
With every act of love, the good catches up...
