My Styx collection is nearly complete. I only need "Cornerstone", "Kilroy...", "Edge of....." and "Brave new world". Amazon has been fast and very reliable, and I have'nt been dissapointed yet, although its taking a while to get into "The Wooden nickel recordings". The songs that have grabbed me most is "A Day", "Father O.S.A" and "Witch wolf".

But I have to say that "Equinox" is a major step up from the wooden nickel years. Seriously, its like the band got a super charged kick up the arse. Its A+ and totally different from the first 4 albums. "Mother dear" is what has grabbed me most, the lyrics are just amazing. Dennis De Young has gotta be one of the most under rated performers of all time. "Midnight ride" rocks the house down, and this is an album without Tommy Shaw.

Crystal ball

Equinox is just an absolute treasure.

Equinox is still my all-time favorite Styx album. Glad to find someone else who likes "Mother Dear", one of the under appreciated tracks on this album, I feel. I love everything about it, especially the two-part harmonies of John C. and Dennis.

Loved everything about the album (8 Track)...even the cover. Equinox is what turned me on to Styx. It's a close second to Grand Illusion for me.

It looks like you bought the right ones.

The ones you have yet to get are probably their weakest.

Cornerstone was a major hit. But in my opinion it is cheesy and weak overall. There are a couple of good songs on it.

Kilroy was the straw that broke the camel's back, a waste of time in my opinion.

Edge has some good songs. But without Tommy Shaw, it just doesn't sound like STYX to me.

Brave New World makes a good clay pidgeon.

Well, "Borrowed time" comes of "Cornerstone" and that kicks arse!!!! I'm not a fan of "Lights" though. Thats not one of Tommys greatest in my opinion. I'm so into "Equinox" though. I put it on every morning before I go to work. Gets me pumping!!!!

Borrowed Time, Why Me, Lights (yes, I liked "Lights"), and Never Say Never. IMHO, it started a direction that Styx continued on with Paradise Theater - a more "sophisticated" pop-rock sound that wasn't THAT different, IMHO, with the direction that Genesis took as it evolved from bombastic prog rock to mega-pop rock icons.

Again, only MHO, had Styx - Dennis - stayed with the sound of Paradise Theater and stayed away from the techno-schlock of Kilroy, Styx could have ascended to Fleetwood Mac-like uber-status. I will always contend that Styx could have had their or Genesis' world-wide following had they maintained the momentum that Cornerstone and, more specifically, Paradise Theater began to build. Sure, the classic Styx diehards - those who hold Equinox, Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight as the 4 Gospels of Styx - may not have been thrilled, but the masses would have latched onto Styx in a major, major way.

IMHO, as big as Styx was, their (i.e. Denins') change of direction on KWH killed their chances of being REALLY huge.

As I listened to my brand new copy of Cornerstone for the 1st time, that little Bridge section of Borrowed time, the "YES/NO" in the falsetto.......that was the very moment I knew that Styx had turned a corner and was going in ( what in my opinion was ) the wrong direction. I was 18 at the time, and for the 1st time I felt like they were aiming at an audience younger than me. Paradise Theatre was a bit better thankfully, but it was never quite the same after that.

I guess I am one of those "Four gospels of Styx" people.

Now I am NOT knocking anyone's preference at all. We all need to like what we like. I liked that the band went in different directions. From their Wooden Nickel going forward I've always viewed the band as evolving and/or catering to the tastes of the day. I still think they try to do that. I suppose it's truly subjective. To each their own. And no offense meant.
