I forgot to add my question to the original post: If you had to choose a way to die, would it be from a Styx Missile or from the Styx Bomb?

Personally, I'd choose the missile.

Cyclorama...

Postby kipthekid » Thu May 29, 2008 1:21 am

certainly not "great" or a significant addition to the Styx pantheon, but I wouldn't call it a "bomb." IMHO, Tommy Shaw has grown considerably as a song writer and it showed on Cyclorama. These Are the Times is also a nice, very "Styx-ish" effort by JY. Overall, the effort is uneven and even self-parodying in spots (Billy Bob Thornton, Tenacious D, the disastrous "Fields of the Brave" etc), but it has its moments. Glenn's contributions were also less than what one would normally expect from a song writer of his caliber. Larry Gowan needs to stick to the keyboards and accoustic piano.

Again, IMHO - Cycloroma reflects where Styx was then and is now - an ATM machine for aging former rock stars and talented never-were's who deserve a better gig in the big-time (Todd). The TALENT is there - the chops, for the most part, are there - but the inspiration, as one would expect, is long gone.
Can't we all just get along?

Being released in July according to a few reports.

Makes sense Hunchback will have concluded its run by then and he can promote it.

I'll believe it when I see it  I hope if he does release it at all that he does promotion that brings it to the public's attention, otherwise, why bother ?

I'd highly doubt it will be July. I do think it will get released at some point. Promotion...don't see much of that happening.

He's never gonna please enough of the die hards. And the general public...even with a mountain of promotion it wouldn't go anywhere. Not the popular music of today.

to get a spot on Ellen, or Regis, or anybody else's show would help immensely. Rockline ? Get airplay( or at least 1 spin ) , on John Tewsh radio show, etc. I do know it would be an uphill battle, but seriously, if no effort will be made to promote, then just stick with the canadian release.....the diehards in the US probably already have their copy, and the US release wont generate much revenue without promotion of some kind..

I'm sure there will be some promotion...but I don't think it will be the kind that you're talking about. He may get some television spots...but they won't be as high profile. He just isn't that name worthy to get them.

And for him, I never got the impression his solo career was paramount. He'll release it because he has a contract. He'll do some promo. And in the end, just as with the majority of classic rock acts, it will fade.

I swear, we all, myself included, love to armchair quarterback this band and its members (past and present) and their decisions. No offense to you Classic. I just don't see this cd being all that much about revenue. I doubt that was ever the intent of it.

Has there been any word on who his duet partner will be on this? If it is someone big, that "might" help him some.
