Hunchback Preview Review May 10th

Postby LtVanish » Mon May 12, 2008 8:00 am

I went to one of the preview performaces of the Hunchback on Saturday night. First off this is a very small theatre, so don't worry about getting one of the seats in the back, because it is only probably 25 feet from the stage. I ended up sitting in the back row, and it is actually like having front row seats. Suzanne DeYoung and Carrie Ann was sitting about 8 seats down from where I was sitting. It looked like the entire DeYoung family and friends were there. As the show was going on Dennis was standing right behind me watching and going over things with the sound board. I glanced over he was singing along with the performance, watching as his baby live. There is really no back stage at this place, so the actors and actresses come onto the stage from the aisles. There is also a lot of singing coming from behind which I thought was really cool. Seeing this production in person was unbelievable, this has the makings of being a huge production some day. The show was very entertaining, I was suprised about how good the singing was. At the end of Act I, I was standing in line for the restrooms and I overheard Dennis yelling at someone about being off key in the dressing room. He sounded pissed, I could not believe it, because I thought everything sounded great. Overall do not miss seeing this musical, this has all the makings of being something big someday. To give you an idea of how small this place is, the guy taking our tickets to enter the theatre was David Zak, the director of the production. Also cool how "Lord of the Rings" from Pieces of Eight was done in this. I will write more as the thoughts come to me. I will be going back to see this a few more times no doubt.
