Styx Coming To Smith Mountain Lake

Just heard last night that Styx is coming to Smith Mountain Lake in August. I haven't followed the band since Dennis DeYoung left the band, so I was wondering if this would be a good concert to attend? This will be an outdoor concert on the Lake. I'm not so much interested in hearing DeYoung's replacement, but I liked to see Tommy Shaw. Actually, I wouldn't mind if they'd just cover the Shaw material and leave off the DeYoung stuff (because I'm not sure if I can stand to listen to someone else cover those tunes except for DeYoung himself.)

If anybody needs info on the concert and planning to attend, I'll be more than happy to find that for you. I might go to the concert for the heck of it. I love attending out door concerts at the lake. Lots of beautiful women up there! :D

Go. All reports say this band delivers a rockin' good time. From what I understand, they don't do many DeYoung songs in their set anymore

However. Correct the mythology please. Dennis DeYoung did not leave the band. The band left him. Big difference.

The only two members of Styx to ever leave the band voluntarily were John Curulewski and Tommy Shaw.

Stay home it's a waste of time.
Gowan is awful the band is old and tired looking and its not a real STYX experience.
Put in the dvd with Dennis from 96

Go and enjoy. Decide for yourself. Tommy's voice has held up very well.

One thing I will say for Styx, at least they still have Tommy Shaw in the band. I mean, I liked his lead vocals in the band as much as Dennis DeYoung's. So, in a way, there is still a sense of originality within the "voice" of the band.

It's a shame, I've never gotten to see Journey with Steve Perry, and I guess I'll never get to see Styx with Dennis DeYoung.

Since you have not seen them in the past 9 years, give them a try. They are tight band and they rock. Dennis is missed but they are still worth seeing at least once. Gowan does alright on Grand Illusion. Come Sail Away takes awhile to get used to but once you get past the beginning piano/vocal it ROCKS. Gowan is a talent, he just doesn't fit right vocally for a lot of DDY's material. I got past it because it is a smaller portion of the show now. I can do without hearing some of Dennis' slower stuff but others can't and they are pissy about the current lineup.
