I was invited to play golf in the inaugural Save the Planet Invitational
hosted by longtime popular PGA Tour member, Peter Jacobsen. It was in
conjunction with the opening of the Hard Rock Theme Park in Myrtle Beach.
MTV/VH1 were there and we were treated to a concert by the Eagles. Also
playing with me that day were Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Tom Hamilton
(Aerosmith), Frank Beard(ZZ TOP), Darryl McDaniels of Run DMC and Simon
Kirke(Bad Company). We were joined by LPGA touring pros Jeanne Cho-Hunicke,
Perry swenson, Paige Mckenzie (putting clinic), and Brandi Jackson. Man can
these ladies hit the ball. Beautiful to watch.
I was asked to hit balls with Robin, Frank and Tom Hamilton on camera. I didn't know I
could stillget nervous in front of a crowd until they put a golf club in my hands
instead of a guitar. When my name was announced and it was my turn, my knees
were knockin and my heart rate raised to unsafe levels. It looked like the
blooper reel was in my future but I somehow pulled it together and hit 3
balls over the water and on target while on camera.
Jeanne Cho Hunicke happened to be in a cart next to me so we met early in
the event. She's not just an amazing golf pro but she's great fun with an
outgoing and very likeable personality as well. I gave her and her husband
an open invitation so watch for her at a Styx show this summer. The LPGA US
Open is this coming week so watch and cheer these ladies on, they are
amazing.
