Gowan has added absolutely nothing to STYX and I mean nothing.
He has not even written a song that has been heard by anyone.
How in gods name was he anything in Canada the guy is laughable.
All he does is punch in his programmed keyboards and then butchers Dennis 's songs.
Fans have seen enough and thats why not 1 single person was in the pavilion at that show.
Did you ever also tend to think the angle of the shot - probably from the lawn - may not be able to get people lower. Clearly there were shouts and such down by the stage. Was everyone in their "seat"? No. Was it empty? No.
As Jodes posted, Gowan had big success in Canada. Outside of some songs that charted here, DDY (outside of Styx) hasn't had a ton of solo success (chart-wise). Let's be fair here. Do some people know "Desert Moon"? Sure, but I bet more people in Canada know "A Criminal Mind" than people around the world know "Desert Moon". And I like that album and song.

From a multi platinum band to nobody showing up to see them is the end of the road.
DDY isn't exactly shifting a million units, either. Nothing wrong with that, but even if Styx hadn't parted in 1999 with DDY, and they made another album, would it have been platinum? I highly doubt it. It may have done as well as BNW which wasn't a big seller at all.

Styx can't even put out another cd
Look at the numbers of the last cd under 20 thousand
I would argue this is a fluke. Arrival, Red 13, and Generations didn't sell well at all and all of a sudden this sells like gangbusters?
Remember that people are getting a hits package (even though it's re-recorded), a DVD, and the new album for like $12. Yes, there's some buzz, but to Joe Sixpack, it's just a hits package which they picked up at Wal Mart and they could probably care less about the new stuff, if Steve Perry was in the band or not, etc.
froy wrote:If Journey sandbagged Perry like STYX did to Dennis they would get the same fate.
You forget STYX thought they were going to rewrite STYX History without Dennis and guess what they were dead wrong.
I find it no surprise that people would rather hang out at the bar and drink rather than see STYX
Look at the video people walking by and not even looking at the stage.
That says it all
So you're saying the split with Perry was amicable? Ha! Not to the fans. Similar situation ("wait to tour"), they didn't want to, out goes the lead singer. Bad feelings in fan base which is somewhat split. I would agree that Styx has tried to change their image a bit, but whether you think it's successful or not, even I would argue that Steve Perry was more intrinsic to Journey in terms of their
image than DDY was to Styx. In no way am I saying DDY was unimportant to Styx because anyone know who knows anything about the band and is a true fan knows how important he was and is in many ways to the band (whether band members of the present choose to acknowledge it or not). Sure, Perry became part of the writing "team" over in the Journey camp, but writing-wise, DDY was much more important to Styx IMHO
