Funniest Styx concert review

Postby blt man » Thu Jul 17, 2008 11:22 am

Funniest review I have seen of a concert ever. The "cross outs" in the article came after the comments posted at the end of the article.

Gee, I wonder who sent this piece of original material in:

This is JY. We booted DDY out of the band in 1999, but we don’t advertise it because it is in our best interests if people believe he is still in the band and pay money to come see our shows.

Even still, I’m not sure what concert you went to…we don’t play cringe-inducing songs like Babe or Lady any more, and never will.

The posts there are almost as harsh as the ones here.

I wonder what the libel laws are about impersonating an individual with intent to harm or injure?

I wouldn't be too concerned if I was the loser who posted it. It's not like JY knows anything about legalities and lawsuits or has any way of finding out about it. 8)

Yeah, I've heard some not so great things from people about Boston lately. Now I've never been much of a fan and think Scholz is the worst rock star in the world. Where did this dude learn to dress? So when I went to see them in Vegas at a sold out Thomas and Mack Center in Vegas. There were 19k fans in their seats when Styx took the stage and did a well performed set. I like the current version of Styx, but there are some out there that don't. The crowd was eating the set up.

The Boston came out and 19k fans cheered and were waiting for Boston to carry this night on. Three songs into the set there were probably 4k people left in the venue. They were fucking awful? They cleared the joint out and they really could do anything that was even passable for a professional show. People were booing and cursing. Now this article where hey aren't singing the songs. Geez! When do they get called out for this bad behavior and Styx should not even be any where near this stink.

And the guy talking about how Styx hides the fact that Dennis Deyoung is not in the band. What does this douche bag want them to do. They do not use his name or image. They have been as open as could be expected. What more can they do?

Journey puts the current band members names on the promotional material and still have people that leave saying how great Steve Perry sounds. People's ignorance is not the bands fault.

The writer obviously has no clue about Styx...they haven't played "Babe" live in 9 years.

Not true. Styx has played "Babe" - definitely in Japan (and it's captured on boot), and I'm pretty sure at least once on the original tour of Germany they did around 2002 or 2003. The Japan one was at the request of the promoter.

The shows in Baton Rouge and Los Angeles were pretty much the same. People were LOUDLY complaining about how bad Boston was, and there was a mass exodus from the venue.

I always loved Boston, and when I saw them a few years ago, they were fantastic. They were tight, the sound was sparkling clean, and the energy level was high, even though they weren't the type of band that runs around the stage a lot.

Because Brad Delp had such a distinctive voice, I was afraid that they'd never be able to find someone who could sing his parts convincingly. It turned out that the vocals weren't the problem. The new guy sounded a lot like Delp, but that's the only thing that was familiar. The sound was muddy and unbalanced, the playing was sloppy, and their energy level...well, it was like they had all had a heavy meal right before the show.

Fortunately, the show here a few days ago was just Styx. :D

I have seen Boston to. I would say two or three years ago. The sounded great in my opinion. If the singer wasn't the problem then I am sure you just saw them on a bad night.

But....honestly....I have been to shows where two people were at the same show and had totally different opinions. I remember once in the 80's seeing Billy Squirer and Ratt together. Ratt opened up and were stoned off their asses. Billy Squirer came on was was really really good in my opinion. I talked to someone else who went to the show and they said Ratt was really good and Billy Squirer sucked. I was dumbfounded. person musta been a big Ratt fan and hated Billy Squirer before the show. So it depends, but I can tell you the last time I saw Boston they were very good.....you got to remember Tom Scholtz is a perfectionist....took him like 20 years to release the third cd. It musta been something that was out of Tom's control.
