Found this over on myspace, I sure hope this is not true, does anyone have any details?
Tommy Shaw announced at last night's show that Suzie Young had a very serious medical emergency, and JY was by her side in Chicago. She may have already undergone emergency surgery. Let's all send our thoughts and prayers to all concerned for a full and speedy recovery for Suzie.
Good thoughts and prayers for Suzie if this is true.

It was posted as a bulletin by one of my friends on my space. I sure hope this is not true, but how could JY be at her side if he's in North Carolina, unless she's not in Chicago.

It's true.
He was in Chicago when it happened, thankfully. This is a video taken by "Gowangirl" and posted on Youtube. PLEASE no remarks this time, guys. The whole thing is really kinda eerie.

That is weird. Having seen Styx quite a lot over the years, not seeing JY up there is a bit unsettling.
I hope all is well in the Young camp and she's on the mend.

I'm seeing the Styx/Boston show tomorrow (8/17) here is Atlanta. It'll be interesting to see Styx without JY (unless he makes a return then). Is anyone filling in for him in the meantime?
I hope Suzie gets well soon!

Wow. I've never met her, but they've been married around thirty-five years, I guess. She was sick for a number of years and JY has never missed a show because of it, ever, so I sincerely hope that she is going to be all right. Best wishes to all of them.

We just learned today that Susie Young had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. This was a very serious situation. Please, I hope everyone in the Styx family will send all their prayers, best wishes, and energy to JY and Susie to see them throught. Last I heard, she was doing as well as can be expected, but lucikly JY was in Chicago when this happened, so he is by her side.
Styx could have cancel or postponed the show tonight in Huddleston, VA but JY insisted that they go on with the show and not let down the fans. The crew still set up JY's mike complete with picks and had his "One with Everything" guitar hanging on the back amps. So, JY was there in spirit. Tommy looked like he was missing his right arm. The band worked very hard to do the show without JY. Lawrence performed "Lorelei" and did a really excellent job. And Lawrence played guitar on another song. And they pulled a few old friends out of moth balls and did "Sing for the Day, and a couple of others. At the end of the show, Tommy had Libby turn up the house lights (even though we were in a field) and Tommy pulled put his camera and annouced he wanted everyone to scream at the top of their lungs and he was sending the video to JY and Susie.
As far as I know, the shows are still going on in Roanoke Rapids and Atlanta. But I don't expect JY to be there.
Again, I hope everyone will keep JY and Susie in their thoughts and I pray she will make a speedy and complete recovery.

After all the division, pissing matches, and grudges we hold over favored band members and shit, this is a friendly reminder that all of these guys are human and worthy of being treated so, including compassion in a time of need like this.
Best wishes to JY and Suzie.
You never know... this could be a blessing in disguise. DDY contacts JY to wish him and Suzie well, the olive branch starts growing, and next thing you know classic Styx is back with Larry helping on keys and Suzie's all healthy. Hey, we can imagine right?

All my best wishes for a speedy recovery, its so great that JY was in Chicago when it happened.
That sure takes the rest of the band out of their comfort zone but it seems like they did just fine. It is very very weird not having JY up there, I'm sure they feel lost. I noticed that Chuck was not at these shows either.

Good grief. Sorry. But I don't see this as being about "olive branches" and how "Lorelei" sounds with a different singer.
I am wishing Mrs. Young a fast and full recovery. Their many years together are a testament to their commitment and love.

I could NOT agree more. Thank you. As a recent newlywed, it's heartbreaking, yet, inspiring to see a couple who have been together so long taking care of one another. Relationships that are nurtured can be amazing things.
I think the guys did a great job of pulling off the show without their "right arm," but I am in no way doing backflips over any of it. Mostly, I feel unsettled, and I just want her to make a full recovery.

They are a truly inspiring couple, she has been right there by JY's side thru all of this, on the road with him more times than not. I agree I find it very unsettling, having met Susie a few times, she is a very great lady, along with JY she is one of the backbones of the band. Heck having to live on a bus with 6 or 7 men has got to quailfy her for some kind of award

I agree with all these sentiments in this thread (with the exception of why someone decided that they would comment on how well Gowan does Lorelei in the middle of a thread that is about the illness of JY's wife)..
I really want to pass to JY that he and Susie are in my prayers. After losing his brother just a few years ago, I hate to see JY go through another medical crisis. May JY find strength during this tough time.

In a strange but true story....years ago after the initial breakup a strange conversation with a lady in a bar one night who claimed she knew the members of Styx. Her proof consisted of two things: A line that TS supposedly borrowed from her as inspiration for the song little girl world off of his firs solo record and an illness asociated with JY's wife that she descirbed as "terminal". Considering the envorionment we were in that night, I was skeptical to say the least. After hearing this though, well the twighlight zone music is playing. Hope she is doing better.

Just a quick FYI: Susie's current condition is unrelated to her ongoing illness. Based on what I've managed to piece together, she pulled through the surgery with no complications, and is in stable condition. I imagine we will hear more details as the arise.
