Big Bang Again

For no real reason, I've recently been going back and giving "BBT" a new listen.. I didn't really give it much of a chance when it came out, but I remember there was a lot of hype at the time(first hot 100 album in 14 years?) Can anyone refresh my memory: outside of "Walrus", what songs did they push towards radio? I'm thinking it was either "Can't Find My Way Home" or "I Can See For Miles", maybe "I Don't Need No Doctor", too?

Walrus, I Can't Find My Way Home, and Doctor. At one point or another, they actually all made it into the set.

I more or less did the same thing a while back. I still do not like the album at all.

When I still worked at the radio station, I put "One Way Out" in heavy rotation. Basically because it was my favorite on the album, I like the guitar and drum work on it. We also played "Walrus"

Thanks for the answers guys.. I've pretty much come to the same conclusion as most of you, as far as it not really being something worth revisiting a whole lot.. I don't know if it's that the performances are weak, or that I just don't really care about most of the songs in the first place. The tracks that do stick out to me are: "It Don't Make Sense", "Walrus", "Salty Dog", and I actually did notice "One Way Out" as well. "I Don't Need No Doctor" is okay, too, but a little on the repetitive side. As far as tribute/covers albums go, I don't really care for them, and I will say that from what I've sampled of other artists' efforts, Styx did as well, if not better as anyone else at making the songs their own.

'A Salty Dog ' is Gowan and Styx at their ABSOLUTE best.

BY FAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR the best song on the CD.

This was the type of song the band dreamed of performing when Dennis and The Panazzo's were playing back in DDY's garage in the late 60's.

I love that tune!!!!!

Shaw/Blades Influence wins big over BBT for me just because the source material is dearer to me on that one than on BBT. BBT has its moments, but I don't go back to it at all - I just love the overall feel of "Influence" enough to go back and listen to several tracks. Summer Breeze is still one of the best covers out there...

Salty Dog is one of my favorites on BBT.

The only ones I don't care for are "Manic Depression" (I'm not a Hendrix fan anyway, and the song just goes on & on & on for me) and "I Can See For Miles" (again, not much of a Who person, and the song is sorta blah)

Songs I really, really dig are:

Talkin' About the Good Times
One Way Out
Salty Dog
Walrus
Summer in the City
Locomotive Breath

The rest sort of fall somewhere in the middle for me.
