Hi All

It has been months since I posted on here, just checking in to see if Froy is still telling everyone that DDY will be touring with Styx next Summer just like he has for the past 6 or has he moved on to other subjects ?

Worth much more than you. What an idiotic statement. Did you seem to miss the point that they get paid $50k a night for more than 100 nights a year without your or Dennis's help.

Hi Darren! :D Welcome back to Styxville. All you gotta do is read a little to see that things are mostly, well, the same.

Hope all is well with you all.

At their age and accomplishments, they shouldn't have to be playing 100 shows a year just to keep their heads above water. I can't think of another one of their contemporaries who tours this much, yet offers virtually no setlist changes at all.

If someone is willing to pay Current Styx to perform, then why is it a problem? If whoever hires them is happy and the people who come see them are happy, why in the world would they not perform as many shows as they can and take home as much cash as they can? Not changing the setlist or the type of show they are doing is of no consequence since the money is rolling in no matter what.

I, for one, do not blame them in the slightest.

Not that I will ever, EVER go see them or buy any product they may produce, but apparently they are doing something right to continue to be able to tour this successfully.

Ya'll have missed the entire point of AC/DC if you're paying that much attention to their lyrics.

And you have missed the entire point of people having fun with the titles of songs, whether it is what the song meant or not. I do not look for the meaning of life in any AC/DC or any other group's songs. We are just having fun

Ok, what's SO bad about Gowan? He's not as good as DeYoung, but could you find a better replacement?

I think the problem comes with the resentment of some Styx fans that DeYoung's voice was replaced with such a bad singer. By most accounts, Gowan is considered talented and certainly he is/was a star in Canada in his own right. I don't agree with his fans, but I won't argue with them either. To each his own.

When "Criminal Mind" hit the charts here in Canada, I admit to cranking up the volume when it came on the radio. The boy can sing and hold his own, sure. I have to admit though, when I first heard "Criminal Mind" with JY and TS on backup vocals, it blew me away - it really improved the song tenfold.

It's ALL good!

I think on some of the songs Gowan does good, but there are some DDY songs that he slaughters. Last time I saw them was last summer and he sounded like a chipmunk when he sang LAdy. In the earlier days he tried harder to pull a DDY off, but now adays he goes more in natural voice. His own songs that he sings in and solo stuff sound good. I like a lot of his stuff, but him covering DDY it is hiy and miss.
Now as a entertainer, he is great! I like the revoling keys. I like the part where he plays from the otherside of the board, or while it is spinning. JY plays the axe over is head and behind his back, so why can't Larry show off some. Let him jump off the keys, take pictures, whatever. He is over the top? Yea, but so is DDY. Larry is an over the top rocker, where DDY is an over the top ringleader, for lack of a better word. Both styles suit both men, and really both styles are good in Styx.
As a keyboardist, it is hard to say, what Larry had done with Styx has been great, his solo stuff, good, but nothing outstanding solo wise. But the same can be said for DDY solo, his keys have been good, but showy like his Styx stuff (not counting the new solo cd, that is Styx!!)
So I like both camps and like to watch them and by their music. Their are people out there like Bugsy says that either like or hate one of the camps. More power to them, it's their choice. What I don't like is when someone personally attacks another because, they do not agree with their opinon. Or puts one of the camps sown, becuase that group or member doesn't do things they way that person wanted.
Me I like both camps. Wish they would put out more music. I get more SRP this way. And if both sides are happy doing what they want, then more power to them.

Good does not cut it Eric
Fact is Gowan is the reason Styx is an opening act.
Dumping Dennis is the other reason.
You do not break up a great nucleus after so many years just to pretend nothing has changed.
Styx can open shows for the rest of there days as long as Gowan is around.

Yea a very cold one...

Froy,

This is one of your better posts, but have you ever heard them live? I didn't think so.

You know I have not seen them in a few years but when seeing them live if I had to rate performances, Glen, Lawerence & Todd were my top three. They are ALL GREAT entertainers. Tommy & JY are close, and it's Tommy's band, BUT I think Gowan is an AWESOME performer. Tommy and JY seem to lack the same amount of energy that Gowan, Todd & Glen displayed.

I am one of the few who REALLY LIKES Lawerences singing.

For me, on Dennis's songs it sounds like Rush playing Styx. On Tommy's and JY's songs I can tell no difference.

Cyclorama is a GREAT CD that I still play today, and I am looking forward to a new CD from them.

Will their new CD be out before Dennis's American release of 100 Years From Now?? I read that Dennis duet partner for 100 years is the Obama Chick. www.dennisdeyoungobamachick100yearsvideo.com, orwww.dennisobamachick@utubevideo.com

I am just happy that they are all still active.

P.S. As for the nucleus thing, the Sox are currently doing just fine without Pedro, Damon or Manny. I bet if you looked at the bank accounts of the bands current members they are all doing just fine too.

Would agree that about 60% is a miss. But there are songs that he does good on. But he is not Dennis anymore Augeri or Soto was Perry. He is more of the Soto than Augeri. Meaning he is a good singer/songwriter, any anything new would be good, but covering some of the old songs, it maynot sound like the Journey you grew up on. Face it, this isn't the Styx we grew up on.

Actually it was a very hot summer. Foreigner OPENED for the HEADLINER, which was Styx. The palce was wild that night. Now I dindn't think it was one of the better shows from the band (I have seen them a lot), but judging from rest of the crowd, they didn't care if DDY or Alvin was singing. People were on their feet most of the show.

YEa I think the band has rested on their Laural's a little too much lately, 2 new cds (one of which was a covers) in 9 years, come on. But DDY has been how long since a new cd 20 if you count on the rock cds.
