It's 1990- is it the first Styx album in seven years, or is it the Ted Nugent supergroup, featuring one of the Styx' own, Tommy Shaw.

No doubt it was Edge Of The Century.

I liked Damn Yankees, but I had been waiting years for something new from Styx. They played Love Is the Ritual often in Beaumont and Houston at the time and after hearing it and buying the single I was amped for the CD. I bought it the day it came out, and played it exclusively for months.

I thought then and still do now Edge was a GREAT Styx album. MUCH MUCH better than Kilroy Was Here, and Crystal Ball. It's on equal footing with Cornerstone.

I know I am in the minority but I actually like Dont Tread alot more than Damn Yankees first CD.

DY have stood the test of time for me. I still get a charge when I listen to their CDs. Edge had some real shining moments, but dragged in places. And uh...

"Homewrecker" vs. "Piledriver?" Please. lol

Damn Yankees. It was one of the best hard rock albums of that era. There isn't any filler on the album. EOTC had some good tunes but was a somewhat average Styx album.

DY was a more solid album but for sentimental reasons, I dig "Edge" better these days. And I STILL dig "Homewrecker" as well... "Piledriver".. When I played this for a friend he burst out laughing... "This song is hillarious! Busdriver! Busdrivin' Man!". LOL!

Tough call. But overall I am a Tommy fan. So I had to go with Damn Yankees even though the album is a little too long.

Damn Yankees was a really great band with great songs and they rocked. EOTC- Had Burtnik's tunes ... and that was the only thing going for it. His songs are the only reason I listen to that record.

Yeah, kinda me too. Except I have to confess that I am a closet "Back to Chicago" and "Not dead Yet" fan. lol

"Back to Chicago" -- Good song on the wrong album. It SO did not fit on EOTC.

"Not Dead Yet" is great fun.

So while we are confessing here, I, uh, uhm, kinda liked "Homewrecker" too. I think it is the instrumental break in the middle.

I like Don't tread more than the Debut DY album too. Unfortunately Don't Tread came out AFTER the people that control the music industry decided to shove "grunge" down our throats, so it got screwed out of airplay and of course sales. Another great album of missed opportunities.

I still love that first DY album. Solid from beginning to end. Yes, it's a product of its time but it still holds up for me. I still wish they had done a real third album and released it. Two are in various stages - the third WB one was at least in the demo stage and the Portrait one shelved. Bits of the Portrait one surfaced as other stuff. Can you imagine "Yes I Can" with an Uncle Ted solo a la "High Enough"? lol

EOTC has good and bad moments; for me the strongest songs are "Back to Chicago" (hello, Paradise Theater reject lol) and "All In A Day's Work". Everyone knows my thoughts on "Homewrecker" - arguably the biggest turd Styx laid since "Plexiglass Toilet" and "Krakatoa"

What is a better single - "Show Me The Way" or "High Enough"?

It's a draw for me. I like both equally. When it comes to albums, as a whole DY is better for me.
