Of 100 Years From Now in the US...

The last known discussion of it is from a Suzanne Crib Note dated August 18. Here it is

I was just curious if the new album 100 Years from Now is going to be released here in the U.S. and if so is it known when?

John

Dear John,
As soon as duet partner finishes his part Dennis will work on mixing the song and Viola the new CD will be released on Rounder Records.
P.S. Dennis wants to announce it on our homepage sooooo this is all I can reveal! Look for all the info within the next few weeks.

Suzanne

Next few weeks? It now been 10 weeks since this e-mail. Either he doesn't have a record deal or doesn't have a duet partner. Maybe both. I am convinced that this album never sees the light of day in the US - it's just been way toooooo looonnnnngggggg..

Dennis fans if you have information, please correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah, this is pretty silly. I was really interested in picking it up, now, I'm pretty much over it.
That's too bad because Dennis'll lose any momentum that he might have gained from the Canadian release. Not a great move on the part of DeYoung here.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I'm sorry, but it wouldn't have done squat anyway.. That's just the sad reality of it. The days of the album are all but over, and especially for a 61 year old who is a former member of a band that hasn't had a hit in over 17 years, and even that was more of a fluke than anything. I'm sure with the business sense of Dennis and his wife, they are smart enough to know that it's not really worth releasing over here. Anyone who really wants it will pay for the import.

Let's just say it is released, what songs would any radio stations pay attention to now? Yes, they could go the route of having him team up with some big american artist for the title track, but I don't even honestly see that working in the long run(people have way too short of an attention span when it comes to music, especially here in the states).

The other route would be to promote "Save Me" as the single to adult/contemporary formats, but the truth of the matter is they're too busy playing John Mayer and the other whimpy stuff of people that are currently hot right now.

Froy,

You release it because you have told all your fans that is what you are going to do.

He's doing the same thing now that he did back when they were recording Brave New World. Once again it is his Hunchback musical that is standing in the way of new rock music.

The only difference is that it is now Froy who is saying EXACTLY what Tommy said about releasing new material, with no tour to promote it. I believe Tommy said back then'without a tour it is not in my best intrest to finish this project'(Brave New World)

Here's an idea, Dennis releases 100 Years From Now in the US.

After it is released, Lawerence Gowan quits Styx. Then he goes on tour singing songs from 100 Years From Now and other Styx & DDY classics.

Gowan could save the day AGAIN for us Styx & DDY fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now EVERYONE is happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think what Froy meant here is that since DDY is leaving for his tour in Germany from mid-November to mid-December if he releases the CD in November or December (i.e. now), he won't be around to promote it in the US. It makes more sense to release it after he gets back.

And if you'd infuse a little common sense into your fantasy world, we would rarely disagree. ;-)

Seriously, Yogi. Do you honestly expect Dennis or anyone else in that position to choose to spend thousands of dollars they have no way of recovering because they said you would? I mean, I said I was going to have a millionaire husband and liposuction, but neither of those things have happened either. ;-)

I'm sure Dennis has better ways of being charitable than to spend $50,000+ for a bunch of coffee table coasters.

I'm talking about at his house, with what's left after the 12 of you have bought your copies.

Not gonna happen. If he was touring to promote/sell it, that would be one thing. But as Froy said, if there's no tour, there's no market and therefore, no motivation to release it.

...Don't all of you have the Canadian copy? Is all this hooplah because you an English version of one song? BFD. You GOT the new music. Why should it matter to a *fan* if it's released here or in Canada, as long as it's available for purchase?

Uh...yeah. That's pretty much a no brainer, unless you're JUST doing it for the sake of doing it.

I agree with this, BW. I do not think Dennis has any illusions that this album will do much of anything here in the US. He recorded the album because his label in Canada wanted new music. Releasing the album here in the US is simply something he can do because the music is there and, apparently, Rounder will put it out on their label.

Between Hunchback and the European tour, not many opportunities have arisen that would at least allow them to put it on the radar screen of those who might be interested in buying it.

My impression is that, right now, it is definitely on a back burner in his mind. Whether it will ever come to the forefront again enough to gear it up for a US debut is anyone's guess.

I didn't buy the Canadian version. I figured I would get it when it came out here. Until this thread I've completely forgotten about it.

Well that and that Canadian duet partner sounds like an even more constipated version of Rod Stewart.

I haven't bought any Styx solo artists except Desert Moon and Welcome to Hollywood. Styx has always been about the cooperation and blending of multiple styles. Too much Dennis, Tommy, or JY has always been too much. I did hear 100 years on Satellite radio and I liked it, but not enough to buy it.

The guy could at least release it on Itunes. It costs very little to do that.
I think any of his fans that were interested, have lost interest at this point.

Same with Burtnik. Itunes is pretty cheap and it's an EASY way to get music to your fans. I suppose that it might not be as great as a record company release (not sure how as the artist get's almost all the profit), but for fans that don't want to mail inflated shipping costs, it's the way to go.

Dennis, Glenn, it's 2008- get with the times boys!
