FAREWELL to 1229

You have probably heard by now that when THE CHRISTMAS SCHOONER closes on January 4, 2009, Bailiwick will be saying farewell to our long-term home at 1229 West Belmont and going on the road! We have already booked theater space for July and August for the 2009 Pride Series at the Hoover-Leppen Theatre at the Center on Halsted, and we have been talking with several other places about a home for our other programs.

In the 15 years since Bailiwick moved to our current location, several new theaters have opened, and we plan to take advantage of those spaces; putting all our energy and resources into the shows, and not having to deal with roof repairs, utility costs, and the other rising costs of doing business.

I am really excited about this change - it's like shedding a skin in some ways as we get rid of lumber, costumes, old set pieces, and lots of theatrical detritus. In celebration, we are planning two big events - the 2009 Trailblazer Awards on December 7, and our FAREWELL TO 1229 gala on December 29. Make certain not to miss either of those nights.

They certainly went out on a high note indeed, winning the Jefferson Award for "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." Not a bad way to say farewell. :)
