Well it’s been about 10 years since the remaining members of the classic Styx have performed together. I must admit it would be nice to see them on the same stage again. Nothing against the members who have kept the music alive for the past 10 years, they have made some great music and continue to put on great concerts night after night but it would be nice to see the Styx I grew up with one more time.

I don't feel Gowen should be fired, he is doing what he is asked to do just as we do at our jobs. Either way I hope Styx will continue to continue. I would just like to see a few shows done with the classic line up.

I think Gowan has earned his place for the many years and long hours he has put in as a member of the group. Ditto Ricky. I am no fan of anything Gowan, but he certainly should not be unceremoniously dumped, in my view.

I am in the camp that does not want a reunion at all. I like Dennis solo and am happy with the direction his career has taken him. I think it will suit him for the years to come. His songwriting skills have not diminished at all and, as long as his voice stays healthy, he has the road clear for many years to come.

Styx can continue with its current lineup for many years, I assume, as well.

He is an enabler plain and simple..

Well we all know you are the bastion of what is acceptable. What's truly sad is that you never stop with the one note you learned years ago. The fact that it's off key, out of tune, and totally beyond anything remotely recognizable as reality, is truly lost on you.

Gowan had nothing to do with that, so, by your logic, the "they" that dumped Dennis should take a hike, leaving, well, Dennis alone or Dennis with Gowan and Phillips.

I will take the Dennis alone. He is doing some terrific stuff all by himself, thankyouverymuch.

A reunion at this stage, after this long, with Styx taking the track they have for the last many, many years, would be pointless and would probably garner little or no interest aside from a few die-hards.

Gowan...lol. That dude is about as relevant to Styx as Sherrie Swafford was to Journey. I have no ill will toward the man but it's time to show him the door and get Dennis back. This has gone on long enough. And I think the ticket spike with Dennis would be quite nice. Right now, they're running on fumes and have the attendance to prove it when they play alone.

It wouldn't surprise me...I learned long ago with this band that nothing is off limits...but I personally hope it doesn't come to pass.

You know, there was a time when I would argue this. Right now, I am comfortable in knowing that someone who says such things as these are less interested in Styx/Journey, past or present, and more interested in the argument itself. I spose it can be a fun game at times. But, that's all it really is. It's just been done so often, for so long, that it is really quite boring.

By the time this happens the only venues they will be able to book will be assisted living centers.....that is where we will all reside ......at least we will be able to turn down our hearing aids down to low for the show.

on another note, does anyone else think DDY should rename the US release 100 months from now ? it could be both the title and a goal for a release date rolled into one :wink:

Even if some sort of reunion happens - which I highly doubt - there will be no large ticket spike. Maybe, just maybe they could do 5000 seaters, but that's about it. Both DDY and Styx are playing similar sized venues on their own.

And if DDY comes back, I wouldn't be surprised to see it be more like his touring band with a keyboard player and DDY just singing or playing minimal keys (if at all). If that's the case, I see no need to let go of Gowan unless they hire DDY's solo guy. I think DDY's days of playing keyboards full time are long gone.

Now that Dennis has his foot in the door on Broadway with that 101 Dalmations gig, I think he'll be doing more of those sorts of projects instead of his solo live shows, or even a possible Styx reunion.

I do agree that Gowan should be kept as the keyboard player if Dennis chooses not to do the keys 100%..

Like I said, you don't know what you are talking about. He hardly even 'plays keys' in his solo shows, where he DOES control everything. The argument isn't if he would 'just play keys'...but if he would 'just sing' and leave the 'keys' to someone else.

Froy -

You've seen DDY's solo shows. I've seen probably more than you - including that first post-Styx show at Rye Playland, etc. DDY has been playing less and less keys, and at the Naperville show, it really wasn't much at all. So I wouldn't expect a Styx show to be any less should Dennis come back into the fold. And DDY did have some offstage help during Styx on a few songs (such as the string sounds on Babe done by the tech in 96 and 97), and JY and TS have done some keys onstage during DDY's Styx tenure. There's precedent here.

He may play during TS' songs (again, playing in a fantasy world where DDY actually comes back to Styx), but don't look for much outside of that.

And the strong rumor was back in 96 DDY wanted another keyboard player but TS talked him out of it; if I ever interview him again, I'll ask that one on the record.

Gowan is a VERY logical choice since he knows the parts; so are any of DDY's keyboardists (past or present).

These 2 groups have gone in very different directions. I don't think there is enough interest in the bands or the fans to make any kind of reunion possible.

The other thing is that it's not like there would be a setlist that is radically different from any of the DDY-based tours since about 1978 or so. There would maybe be somewhere between one and three chestnuts, and the rest are the expected songs. So I'm still unsure why people would want a reunion only to get the same songs that we - the people who would ante up - have heard a bazillion times. I don't like "Come Sail Away" any less and would expect to hear it, but it's not like 1996 where the classic lineup hadn't played together in 12 years and it was an event. Both Styx and DDY have toured hits - or specifically, their hits - for the past nearly 13 years (since 1996). For me, there would have to really be something special to make it compelling.

More like 45 -50 shows

Yea Styx is playing the same show for 10 years in a row and Dennis has a great cd coming.

Part of the missed opportunity current Styx has is from the lack of original material albums. If these albums had a number of songs that featured Larry as the main singer and stayed as part of the set, then adding Dennis back in would be easier as Dennis could play his songs and Larry could play his. Instead the set list has Larry playing Dennis' which wouldn't easily work with the merging of current set lists. One could argue that Larry sung songs have been more successful than Tommy's or JY's since this lineup was put together.

Tommy has even said that bringin Dennis back would be difficult, seeing Larry is such a part of who Styx is today. Remember, there is a generation of Styx fans that have never seen Dennis with Styx.

I'm with most here, things should stay as they are. Each group has carved out it's own identity and seem to be happy with it.
