Yeah and the new guy is off to such a great start. God knows how many more millions just went into this shin dig in D.C. Funny how the media was so critical of Bush spending a third of that when he took office office in 2005.

And you gotta love his new Treasury guy Obama just appointed, he only owes $34K in back taxes. He made an "honest mistake". This is the guy who is going to run the IRS? Of course most of you have not heard this, because the media is still talking about Sara Palin's wardrobe or the fact that Joe the Plumber owes $1,200 in back taxes. Interesting, I did not know Joe held a political office. OK all of you American tax payers in the Styx forum, it is ok (leading by example) to make "honest mistakes" on your tax returns.

I wish the new President all of the luck in the world, it doesn't do any of us any good if he fails.

I hope no one is a hunter or likes guns on this board because Obama said he is going to tax the heck out of guns and ammo. If he can do it, you might be able to say goodbye to the "The Right to Bear Arms".

On a side note I hear Clinton gave Obama a box of Cigars as a gift and told him that he highly recommended them in the office and they were not just good for smoking with a grin :)

Both President Obama and outgoing President Bush handled the transition with grace and dignity. I find it unfortunate that froy can't take a cue from them and do the same.

I don't need a gun.
Either do you.
We have a right to protect ourselves yes but guns don't do that they kill period.
Just think of how many people would be alive today if we did not have the right to bear guns.
Give everyone the right to punch the shit out of each other not pick up a gun.

None of us would need to own a hand gun, if the criminals did not already have them. What is our newly elected president going to do about the existing criminal element that lurks in our big cities today?

I rest my case. Froy with each passing day I'm growing more convinced that you are the worst of America. No one ever said you have to love the president. It would just be nice if you could exhibit even the slightest amount of dignity.

Let's see what he does. It's his first DAY. Did Bush do anything about that? I don't seem to recall. He was too busy in Iraq or on vacation...

As for 'hunting', jesus it's the 21st century, what the Hell do we need to hunt for? Fun? Sport? 'nuff said.

Presidents can't tax anything. Only Congress can raise taxes. Also, you seem to be referring to a sales tax, and we have no national sales tax. Any taxes on purchases would be levied by city, state, or county (parish in Louisiana).

Besides, I doubt that any man with two daughters wants to get rid of guns.

LOL, I'm with you on the Nelson thing. Let's make banning that a top priority for the Obama Administration! After all, he DID say he wanted to implement policies that we can all agree on. Banning Nelson is really "reaching across the aisle". I think even Sarah Palin would agree. (One side note about Sarah - I agree with most people that virtually everyone has been gracious in transition. McCain gave the greatest concession speech in history. Bush has tried to make the transition easy. The only person who seems to be ungracious to this very day is Sarah Palin. She insists on seeing herself as having been mistreated by that mean old nasty media, LOL. Somehow she doesn't understand that if you run for the second-highest office on the world, and you are unable to answer relatively simple questions, it opens you up to public criticism).

As for guns, obviously nobody's banning guns. Making it harder to get them makes sense, so people that have no business with them - ie people who don't know how to use them responsibly - will be less likely to own them. Everyone has the right to bear arms, but that doesn't mean that everyone should EXERCISE that right, if you see what I mean. The last thing I need is my drunk, stupid neighbor on the loose with a gun.

Unfortunately, the laws can't discriminate against drunk, stupid neighbors, or inbreeds, or otherwise "special" people.

Speaking of banning Nelson, was it Jay Leno who asked if Obama was promised to do away with torture that he was going to cancel "The View?" That would make me happy as well.

Yeah my wife talks trash with her friends all the time and does not get Joy whats her name's money.

Back to the earlier John lennon reference, George Harrision was attacked in his own home by a nut with a knife, he is very luck to have survived that only to be taken from us way to early from a life of smoking. There are countless stories of home owners sucessfully defending their familes and properties with a hand gun. Old cliche, guns don't kill people, someone has to be pulling the trigger. Hand gun laws sure did not help Ron Goldman and Nicole did they? I don't think the hand gun laws in our nations capital have reduced violent crime.

Bush on vacation? I remember reading statistics that Bill Clinton was out of the White House much more than George Bush was, and I would think being the president doesn't he/she deserve some time off. Even when Bush was at his ranch at Crawford, he was still getting daily briefings of world affairs, so he was never far away.

"Presidents can't tax anything. Only Congress can raise taxes. Also, you seem to be referring to a sales tax, and we have no national sales tax. Any taxes on purchases would be levied by city, state, or county (parish in Louisiana)."
Don't forget Tani who has control of congress (Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy, Franke and the guy who purchased Obama's seat)

"Besides, I doubt that any man with two daughters wants to get rid of guns."
Hmmm, you have a point there :)
However he like all the hollywood celeberties who want gun control travel with armed security. Me thinks that speaks of hypocricy. See Rosie O'donnel interview of Tom Selleck some years back.

Sterling - A minor defence of SP, she just wants to see if Caroline Kennedy will recieve the same (mis) treatment from the media as she did. For instance, if Palin is not qualified, can somebody explain to me CK's qualification to run for Senate. I think we all know the answer, but lets just see how it all plays out. By the way, since we have another movie out about Nixon (Frost), I am waiting around for the one about Ted Kennedy's little drive into a certain body of water where one passenger did not emerge. Was there ever such a movie? Would this not make for some interesting watching? Sterling do you live next door to Homer Simpson? He had a great line about gun control, when the shop owner mentioned a waiting period, Homer said "aw, but I'm mad right now"

"That show would be a lot better if Zan and I were on it."
TIVO set - Although Froy and Zan would be much more entertaining.

Paul was on the view and I missed it...crap! I bet they hit him with some engaging stuff: Hey Paul when are the Beatles getting back together? So what's your favorite color? Where were you when Ringo was shot? What was your inspiration for Imagine?

I could post one or two of these a day from NOLA.com. How does a 15 year old get a hand gun? Both with prior arrests, one for grand theft auto. Where is the justice system in all of this? Where are the parents? Last I looked, 15 year olds cannot even be out after curfew? If these two creeps are randomly roaming around robbing people in New Orleans, what is to stop them from going into a house. Read the article, the victim complied with them and now is dead.

I know Sarah Palin said she wants to see if Kennedy will get the same "mistreatment" from the media that she did, and that's exactly my point. Palin wasn't treated any differently than anyone else who runs for high office. She was asked some questions - questions that, by the way, I myself am fully capable of answering in full, and I'm a freaking rock journalist, for God's sake (to quote the late, great Frank Zappa,"Music journalism is people who can't write, interviewing people who can't speak, for the entertainment of people who can't read", LOL). It's not like Katie Couric is a journalistic barracuda. She failed utterly to answer many of those simple questions in any kind of a coherent manner; thus, she was the subject of public ridicule. What did she expect?

She has a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of the media. She seems to think they should provide her the opportunity to say whatever she wants to and act as a forum for her ideas and point of view. They're actually supposed to ask questions, to expose the strengths and (in Palin's case) weaknesses of the candidates. That's all they did. They didn't hang her. She hung herself, and continues to hang herself. As for Caroline Kennedy, no, I'm sure she won't get that treatment . . . because I'm confident she will be able to form a coherent sentence, thereby not exposing herself to lampoon. Palin wasn't treated any differently than any other person would have been if they displayed the complete inability to articulate any kind of an answer to a simple question. The fact that she's incapable of seeing that is just that much more symptomatic of how clueless she really is. My problem - and most people's, I think - with her isn't that I disagree with her, although I do. I disagree with a A LOT of people and still respect them. That's the nature of democracy. We're supposed to have debate and discourse. My problem with her is that she is flat out stupid, unable even to coherently articulate her own positions and then back them up. That's unacceptable on every level for a person who aspires to the second highest office in the world.

I hope all is well.

I see this morning that sweet caroline dropped out anyway for personal reasons. I see this media as bigger than just Palin however Sterling, I mean forget Katie for a minute and just contrast the differences on the View, Letterman, and various shows when they interviewed McCain vs. Obama, surely you saw a difference in the tone, questions, etc. By the way, I think if we vote based on interview or debate skills we are truly missing the point of the two party platforms and what the candidates really can accomplish. Joe Biden told Katie Couric that Franklin Roosevelt went on television to discuss the great depression. She didn't even bother to correct him. Obama said publicly that there were 57 states, my 9 year old caught that one. Why didn't the media play those gaffes over and over. Why isn't the media playing up this tax cheat that Obama wants to run the Treasury Dept? Hell the NY Times ran a front page news story on an alleged affair that McCain supposedly had, followed by a buried retraction of the story. How bout that scum Edwards cheating on his cancer striken wife, the news media ran hard from that one. It took the Enquire to report it. I will go with your point that there is a consistency of the media to report negative things. But if you cannot see a liberal/democrat bias in the mainstream media, aside from Fox News which I will admit goes the other way, then I do not believe you are truly being honest.

I agree with you on the Couric questions, but you have to admit the Charles Gibson question about the Bush Doctrine was a "Gotcha" question. She didn't know it, and Gibson didn't know it. In fact the majority of people walking the earth didn't. A day later, I heard there were actually 4 Bush Doctrines, so the perfect response from her would have been, which of the four are you referring to. Of course that response would have never made it to air. Can anyone recall any Obama "gotcha" questions? Oh yeah, Joy from the view asked him if he was realted to Brad Pitt.

Yeah remember how she use to drool about Tom Cruise, this was when he was doing all those Mission Impossible movies which were pretty violent. And of course she was the spokesperson for Kmart which was selling guns. Poor Magnum having to put up with that. Actually the most pathetic thing I saw her do was in that movie with Dan Ackroyd where she donned a leather bondage outfit....I almost hurled.
