Listening to it now...
Truly an underrated classic. For a Top 3 single, I don't know why it hasn't had the staying power of some of Styx's other songs. The riffs are catchy as hell. Everything about the song is catchy. Truly captures Styx's peak vocally...

I think it's by far the best Ballad Styx ever did (I don't consider Lady a ballad) and it's probably the only ballad by any artist that I like. The vocals are incredible. All the harmonies on Paradise Theatre are incredible.
The Best of Times is a much better song than Babe.
Babe is basically a Dennis solo song. All the background vocals are him.
The Best of Times is everyone singing together. MUCH BETTER!! I love Dennis' voice, but I love it much more when it's mixed in with Tommy's and JY's.

My fiance and I are actually considering this song to be played at our wedding. Possibly for our dance!

It always makes me think of the only Homecoming dance I ever went to, lol..
I'm married to the date I had that night; so, if that tells you anything, I do like the song.
I had never even heard of "The Best Of Times" the night of that dance, but I became a Styx fan not too long after, and "TBOT" always brought that night to mind.. I guess there's just something about the sentiment expressed in the song that brings to mind a big event like that.
The music and the lyrics really blend perfectly to bring home the sense of nostalgia that Dennis was aiming for with "Paradise Theatre".
The song is still relevant today(especially today); who wouldn't like to esacape from the rest of the world with their significant other..

There are several songs on PT that are so relevant to today. Much of "Best of Times" for sure. And I keep running: "Don't need no fast buck lame duck profits for fun/Quick trick plans, take the money and run/We need long term, slow burn, getting it done/And some straight talking, hard working son of a gun" over and over in my head. So fitting to right now.
