What should be the lead single off 100 Years?

All this talk of marketing 100 years has me thinking...Should there be a single that gets plugged? If so, what should it be?

I'm not sure the song "100 Years" is really the best to release - especially if there is not a duet. I don't know where it finds a home on any thing mainstream.

I think you have to either go with an AC type of song - here would be my contenders.

Save Me - The closest to Show Me The Way Part 2...could probably find a home (even though it is in themiddle of the pack personally for me) - might even find a home on religious rock stations

Forgiveness - A hidden gem....could fit on AC radio

This Time Next Year - More upbeat and could still maybe find a place on AC radio - would be an ideal release in context of a sports team? Wait until the fall and release it when the Cubs do their annual choke...

Turn Off CNN - could be a fluke type of hit song - especially if Fox News or a right wing radio guy picks it up..

Great songs that I just don't think can find a radio home are Rain and Crossing the Rubicon...where could they ever get played in 2009?

Of course, who knows what the 2 new songs are like...but I am concerned that there is going to be too many tracks. Remember, Dennis was always under the mantra of 9-10 good songs is better than 13-14 average ones. Styx has made that mistake in the past (see BNW) and I think adding two new songs (without taking anything off) jeopardizes the albums flow. IF anything take off Respect Me. Then you are at least down to 12. A skip for me every time.

"Save Me" is a good one and one of my faves from the album. Honestly, the most radio-friendly song, to me, is "I Believe in You." The lyrics are pretty generic, but it has a nice rolling rhythm and good harmonies.

"Rain" and "Rubicon." Great songs. Not single material at all.

Funny how you mention sports and "This time Next year". I put together a highlight dvd for my local Highschool football team and I have used "This time Next year" on it and have had several people question me (all nice questions) about the song.

I actually used a little bit of "Save Me" in a wedding video for a friend of mine. His wife after hearing the song was almost brought to tears by it. So "Save Me" is a good one to be released.

You could also put "Forgivness" on Religious Rock as well.

Also give "Turn off Clinton News Network" to Foxnews to play or to another network.

Thanks

Here's the problem I have with many of the songs that are on the CD. All in all it's a great album that showcases Dennis' talents. But in releasing many of the songs as a single, they just don't work for me. Mostly it is the slow intro to the songs, before the lyrics comes in or music that would let the average listener recognize the song. 17 seconds for Save Me, 45 seconds for Breathe Again, 22 seconds for Forgiveness, 18 seconds for I don't believe in Anything. Each of those to me seem to need some type of radio edit before it was released.

I Believe in You - might get lucky in the right release week in the pop charts. The video wouldn't be able to show Dennis though because of the demographic he is targeting

Save Me and Forgiveness with a radio edit - could enter the Christian Rock market, but he would want to have scores written and available so the songs could be sung with church choirs.

I Don't Believe In Anything and CNN could try adult contemporary, but I Don't Believe would have to follow CNN. CNN has the best chance.

We will also have to wait to see what the two new songs look like.

One of the new songs called "Private Jones" sounds pretty good. You can go to www.guitars101.com and in the bootlegs forum, under other bands, download one of Dennis's concerts and you can hear it. There is also another concert you can download that has Dennis singing the all English Version of "100 Years from now".

Or you can go to these links below.
