I was watching this with my buddies, and at the end of this speech one yelled, "He just said Do Arigato Mr. Roboto!" I laughed my face off in disbelief (after questioning it a few times) and joked, "That is the best publicity Styx has gotten in years!"

Yeah, that Roboto really was terrible for Styx....JY and Tommy definitely were right about that one. Of course, these are the same two Einstein's that had the foresight to go against the record company and stop the release of First Time as a single. Another #1 single would have just sucked for Styx...

Just another reason why the current line up should add Roboto to it's setlist. Regardless of how corny it may come across, the song is pure pop culture and one of the band's best known songs. Whenever I talk to someone about the band, this is the first song that gets mentioned everytime. People seeing the band for the first time, expect this song. Radio stations often promote the band coming with references to the song (at least in my area). It is the most referenced song Styx has in movies, TV shows and commercials. If Styx wants to reach out to different crowds (including age groups), I recommend they add the song and for JY to stop bad mouthing it. Like it or not, the song was recorded and is one of their greatest hits (it says so right on the CD, LOL).

All of the KWH videos (Roboto, DLIE, HMP, HWBHB) all had public airings either on MTV or other video shows. I saw HMP quite a few times on MTV back in the day.

Ironically, isn't it true that the 3rd single off the album, High Time, never had a video? Another poor choice for a single from Styx. HWBHB should have been elevated to the third spot. Sometimes, I really question the band's decision making in their singles release strategy.

Here is my other question, according to DDY, Roboto was never supposed to be a single, but it tested so well that the record company decided it should be the single. Prior to the testing, what was the band and record company thinking would be the opening single off Kilroy if not Roboto? Would they have really led off with DLIE?

Not to get all fanchick on ya Allan, but, Haven't was only on "Friday Night Videos" and never on MTV. It was a contract deal with NBC as they were trying to get FNV on the air. As it turns out it was the second video the show ever aired.

Other than the People's Choice Awards, has Styx won any other award. I can't recall any. They were nominated for a Grammy once.

To you. I actually liked the video.

I liked it as well. Very avant-garde, but I think awhile back we had a thread on this and found that the director had done a number of other videos in the same vein -- unusual graphics and confusing imagery. I never did much "get" what the HWBHB video was all about, but I enjoyed it.
